| I have been reading various post since becoming a Vision owner in January and have found some of the information to be very helpfull. And I have noticed some that were related to the soft finish, and would like to know if anyone has found a way to remove the scratches without destroying the finish. I have been very disappointed with the scratches that just seem to keep appearing and the fit of some of the panels. It just seems a shame to have such a good looking and comfortable bike that looks like it has been abused. |

Posts: 639 Tri Cities, WA | I have a black vision and and it does appear to me that they do have a soft finish to them and get scratches fairly easy. Now could that be that black shows more than say silver, I'm sure it does. I think maybe just staying on top of it with a good soft scratch remover would work to keep that in check. Will test that this year and see if it will stay in good shape.
What color do you have Former? |

| I have the Midnight Cherry, and it seems all I have to do is look at it and it will scratch. And it is even worse I am a Technical Rep for a coatings company and I know none of my accounts would accept a finish as soft as what is on the Vision! |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | I found out about "Liquid Glass" on this forum and am a total convert. Expensive (around $20/can) but everything buffs right out with detailer mist and a microfiber cloth. 15 months and over 20,000 miles and the only dings in the finish are on the front fender from rocks. Take the time to put about three coats on initially and it will really harden the clearcoat. I add a couple of more coats every 6 months. Really amazing stuff. |

Posts: 125 Kerrville Texas ( now a homeowner on six acres) | I trailer my black vision (11000 miles) so far. Behind our motorhome. The care I give it is with Maguires quick detail spray. I do it almost every time we ride.(22,000 miles so far) when I notice scrathes or swirls I Victory swirl remover and then Victory wax. It seems to be doing a fine job.

Try this, or e bay. By the time you pay the freight on e bay, it costs almost the same to buy direct. I hope this helps.

Song,
I am trying to figure out what you use exactly and how. I went to http://www.liquidglass.com/product.htm and found that I am not sure if you are using the detail spray or the polish/finish...etc.
I hate to be a dork...but would you mind telling me which one exactly or if you use more than one? If you use more than one do you use one more than the other?
Fact is, I am a complete goof when it comes to keeping paint looking good. I KNOW that I am hard on any car or bike finish no matter what I seem to do. My dad is the same way and went to a forum sponsored 'finish' day with the group he belongs to for his BAT (big ass truck). He learned a lot and didn't realize how easy it is to keep his truck looking good once its there. The trick is getting it there first and the maintenance will just keep it looking great.
I wish I had the knowledge some of you guys do when it comes to keeping my bike clean and 'neat'. I am ALWAYS impressed by others that take so much time to keep their ride clean (especially some of the HD guys)...but then again, I RIDE mine. LOL! A friend bought an Ultra Classic last year in April. He has about 2500 miles on his and it seems he polishes twice a day and three on the weekends. Well, I bought my Vision in September to ride, not polish and have over 5k on it now and that is given that we have not had that many days of good riding weather. So, his bike DOES look good sitting in his garage...but I want mine to look good both in AND out of the garage.
Wow...did I just ramble? Wholly...sorry!
Thanks in advance!

I'd like to know, too. I have some LG that I want to put on, but I'd like to spiff up the finish first. Mine has scratches and scuffs, especially on the bag covers. I've been putting off applying the LG because, from the instructions, once it's on there it's on there for good. |

Posts: 1290 Ruskin, Fl | Try the polish. It comes in an old fashion looking can with a photo of a 50s vette on it. My black finsh had terrible swirls and fine scratches in it and this took care of it. It is not abrasive, so there is nothing to lose except the price of the product. |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | Here's what works for me. I clean my bike with Meguiar's Detailers Mist and a microfiber cloth on a regular basis. Takes about 10 minutes to wipe down every surface of the bike except the engine fins. Every 6 months I put on 3 coats of the Liquid Glass Ultimate Auto Polish/Finish (gold can/ red vette as described above). I might stretch it out over a week or so because I like to let each coat "cure" in the sun for at least half a day. (I keep wiping down with Detailer mist between coats.) The only part of my bike that scuffs on a regular basis is the triangular panel right in front of the seat (from my 3/4 length jacket). I don't have a passenger on board much so I can't comment on the saddlebag scuffs. After one coat of the Liquid Glass I can still see scuff marks. After the second coat, they are gone. The third coat is like a freshly buffed clearcoat and the Midnight Cherry metalflake absolutely jumps out at you. It is literally nicer than the day I bought it because the clearcoats are so deep. The Liquid Glass truly thrives on the "thinner is better" principle. Put just enough on to know it is there. (I dab it on the cloth and apply with my index finger.) Wipe it back and forth in straight lines. Follow the lines of whatever panel you are polishing. (Forget about the old-school swirly/polish method.) It is all about long, straight lines of very thin wax. By the time you have gone around the whole bike the starting point will have hazed over and you can wipe it off. Again, just follow the lines of the bike. You will undoubtedly get some polish on the plastic edges of the trunk or at the very front of the console, around the speakers or mirrors. Just spray a dab of WD40 on a cloth and rub the wax off of the plastic. (I just did coat #2 for my Springtime waxjob today. Did the first coat last friday.) I'm not a freak about show quality looks (I might touch the wheels once every three months) but the Liquid Glass base with the detailer mist makes it really easy to keep clean. In short: Use any good cleaner/detailer first. Apply three coats of Liquid Glass but allow each to cure well between coats. Prepare to be blown away.

OMG Tom...and SHWING to boot! Can I bring my bike down and let it stay overnight with yours? I'll happy with just two coats and a little WD40...I don't want to push our relationship to far...lol |

Posts: 111 Maine | I have an 08 cherry. Bottom line the paint is soft. Any normal contact by clothes, boots, or any type of cloth will show its mark. I agree that it has made us all experts at scratch and mark removal. Polish, Polish, Polish, and don't let the wife on the back! Neither of these solutions are very palatable. |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | Thanks for the props guys. I'm not nearly into polishing as it may sound. In fact I use the Meguiar's detailer mist and Liquid Glass because I don't want to waste a bunch of time doing it. The detailer mist is literally an all in one product. Plastic, metal, chrome, glass, vinyl cleaner. I have never used chrome polish or anything else specifically designed for each surface. (That's not to say I won't, I just haven't needed it yet.) I like the mist because the bike doesn't feel "staticky" afterwards. I used to be a hard-core carnuba wax guy but the soft clearcoat on the factory paint job had me looking at other options. After checking into the Liquid Glass I dove in and took a chance on it. It has totally exceeded my expectations. If it only made the bike look nice that would be enough but it also leaves a much tougher surface on the bike and is noticeably harder than the original clearcoat. Here's a point of reference for you: I wear size 12 boots and the paint in front of the floorboards (where the fairing curves upwards) looks brand new after 16 months and over 20,000 miles. There may be something better out there but I've never heard about it. |
