Posts: 639 Tri Cities, WA | Hey all,
So the wife and I went to our local DOL and got our drivers lic upgraded to the some what new enhanced lic. For those of you that dont know what that is, it's a driver license that has a chip imbeded in it and few other special things on it so when you want to cross the boarders into Canada, Mexico or the U.S. Islands by land or sea it is accepted in place of a passport. Will not work if you fly into the country and you must have your passport then. WA state did this becasue of the Olympic games in Vancover Canada in 2010 and folks will be crossing our borders in heards. This is a way to make life alittle easier.
Well we got our new lic so we can cross into Canada when ever we like if we are on our bikes, car with no hassales. Since we live so close and at some point this summer we will cross the border we thought it was worth the extra $15.00 to enhance our driver Lic. I know some states dont offer this and they should. Also we have to keep a piece of paper with us ( From DOL ) showing our lic are good for crossing because some very small border towns have never seen them, that way we can hand them the paper so they know whats what and let us in. It's kinda like having that WAC code with ya when useing a head light modulator because some johnny cop dont know the law and trys to write you a ticket till you pull out the WAC code showing them it's leagal in all 50 states...
My question is has anyone else here got theres? |

We are going to get Nexus Passes. For $50 for 5 years, and not having to wait at the border seems worth it. You still need a passport, but if going into any foreign country, that's the primary ID I use anyway.
We're an hour or less from the border, so we end up there often.... was just in Abbostford this weekend. |

Jacksonville Florida | The only reason they want you to get the enhanced liscence is so BIG BROTHER can track you anywhere, anytime. The Government already knows to much about all of us. |

Jacksonville Florida | Chuck, It's not whether we have something to hide or not. It's just the fact that the government is no longer "by the peope for the people". If the law ever invites you downtown for an intervies, take your lawyer with you, because they are not your friend. Believe me. |

| Hey VisionNWRider Does this mean that we can expect to see you up here on Vancouver Island sometime in the not too distant future? I am planning a trip down as far as Bellevue WA the 1st or 2nd week of May just to go to the Victory Dealer. Are you far from there? |

I used to live ther back in the 80's and early 90's in Bellevue. The wife and i plan to make trip up to B.C this summer but no date set yet. We may have to come more your way this summer to say hi. |

Jacksonville Florida | Ineresting article in the Readers Digest dated April 09 Pg. 131 titled Your Identity From Thieves When Traveling.
Newer credit cards, driver licenses, and passports increaseingly contain (RFID) tags. This technology is similar to bar coding, but the information contained is about you rather than a product. Armed with an RFID reader, a thief could pick your pocket of information without your cards ever leaving your wallet. |

Jacksonville Florida | That is a good step forward Chuck, however the Jacksonville Port Authority and Homeland Security require anyone working the port to have a J.P.A. I.D. and Homeland Security requires a natinal I.D. both have chips and are required to be displayed at all times. Just way to much BIG BROTHER for me. Of course these credentials are not free. I think the H.S I.D is about $130. and the J.P.A. I.D. is some what less expensive. Might be like the motorcycle endorsement. All about the MONEY. |
