Being one of the lucky few with a base model Vision, I was installing a windshield motor kit this afternoon and came across an interesting point. My serial is 00612 which is an early '08 Vision. When I removed the instrument panel visor to access the motor windshield motor mount, I found an AM/FM amplified antenna. (In case the pictures don't show they are in my gallery.) Unfortunately, it has the connectors cut off so it is pretty much useless but the power connector that it would have connected to is also there. This is also shown in the service manual audio wiring diagram on page 492, but is not shown in the '08 Vision parts manual. Apparently, it was either inefficient, or too expensive (probably) so it was not included in the production bikes but was already assembled on early units, so it was left on the bike but they cut off the connectors (BOO, HISS). Fixing the power would not be a problem but splicing the antenna cable would produce so much loss that it would probably be no better than using the fairing cap antenna. Since the part is obviously available, it would be nice if it was offered as an option. I think I'll hold my breath until THAT happens.

Funny, this looks exactly like the mod I came up with and posted in the tech forums last year.

Maybe it's as simple as the vendor could not meet the number ordered. Just like the chrome vendor for the forks on the '08?

BigWill, I saw your write up a while back but since I hardly ever use the radio I put it in my "to do later" file. That Metra antenna appears to be identical to the one on mine, right down to the little red LED on top. I'm glad you replied. I was trying to figure out how to get a connector on that cut off cable. Looks like it will be easier and cheaper to just junk the one on the bike and use your mod.

Just curious, did your bike have the unused connector that was originally intended for the amplifier power?

You might find a male and female SMA connector for that size coax. It would provide a low loss connection for the splice.

One place you might try is listed below. It is listed as a local Ham Radio store.

Thanks RT. That would be too good. That place is only about 10 miles away, and about a mile from the daughter's house.

Has anyone considered contacting Victory through their dealer and asking why it was deleted and/or if the appropriate plugs are available? While it might have been as simple as a supply issue it might have been a safety issue just as easily. JMT
