This poll is from VaParadox request. Let us assume this is not a total stranger, but someone you could trust if you say yes. I don't know what other options to add, so you may add your own. Poll result is hidden until you vote to get a more unbias voting.

I let my brother in law ride mine before we put it on the trailer for the trip home. I hated to put it on a trailer but we drove through rain and snow to pick it up.

I let a fellow MSF RiderCoach ride mine two days after I bought it. I let my son ride it soon after I bought it, as well (he liked his Vegas 8-Ball better, though).

If i stop along the road and another person rides up and shows interest i have let them ride my Vision. As long as they ride up on something heavier than a scooter that is. Many have given me theirs to ride and we then pull over and switch back. Great marketing and many a HD rider have changed their attitude.

I have an anniversary edition and heaven forbid anything happens to it but if something does I couldn't forgive myself if it happened while I was letting someone else ride it. So, no I just tell them to go get a test ride at the local dealership.

Its just a bike....

Whenever I've let anyone ride my bikes I've always made sure that they know that there is a "Gentlemens Agreement" or a "make things right" type thing. If by chance anything happens to my bike they agree to take care of it. If they wreck it they pay the insurance deductible and if there is a insurance premium increase due to this accident they will also pay the increase.

I trust them to ride my bike the same way they do thier own bike.

Like I said...its just a bike.

I have never let anyone ride any of my road bikes. That's too much responsibility in unknown hands. Only exception - when selling a bike and carefully allowing test rides.
One other thing - all of my biker pals know better than to ask (as do I).

Yeah, I would never want to ride anyone elses bike either. Too many unknowns and variables. I would never ask nor would I accept any invitation.

There is really no need to allow anyone to ride your Vision. There hundreds of test ride Visions at dealers all over the US and at a lot of motorcycle rallys. Oh and the Gentleman's agreement, good luck with that.

No one has ever asked, I guess they assume I would not allow someone else to ride it. I do have a couple of friends that I ride with that I feel comfortable with. We have talked about trading on rides before but it never actually happened.

I answered no, just because I would never let anyone that I didn't know very very very well. As a matter of fact, I can count the number of people that I can think of that I might let ride my bike on 2 maybe 3 fingers...but as time goes on who knows?...

Let's think this thru from an Insurance standpoint...

I borrow my Vision to Joe and he wrecks it.

Then what happens?  He gives me the keys back and says "sorry about your bike".

Then what happens?  I file the claim on my insurance policy and end up with a blemish on my slate.

Then what happens?  I pay my deductible unless he is a very gracious person.

Then what happens?  I walk for the next 30 to 60 days while my bike is being repaired.

Then what happens?  Summer is over and I park my 'freshly repaired bike' for the winter.

Then what happens?  I learn my lesson to never...never...never borrow my bike to someone.

If I were in an accident that left me unable to ride. I would rather have one of my friends ride it home that have it towed. From what I've read here. Most tow truck drivers dont know how to tow a Vision.

Though I posted this one and voted, I did it at Mr. Paradox's request from another post. I waited for his comment before I made mine. In context the question is really, yes or no. But understanding the passion of people in this regard obviously would net many responses, to which most are the same as the top question; Would you let someone ride your Vision?

I voted "I would let someone ride my Vision" - Sorry, if I ramble on about this but I get amused at some that would try to convince the other for or against their personal choice. I answered "Yes" carrying no stipulations. However, would that mean I would let "anybody" ride my Vision? NO. I hope most here are intelligent enough to rationally make their own decision when and under what circumstance that you would let someone ride your Vision. Whether you ONLY let your wrench ride your Vision, or the entire neighborhood on a Saturday to make a buck or two, you would still let someone ride your Vision. The circumstance is still entirely yours. If you say I will "Never" let anyone ride your Vision, does that mean you won't even let your wrench ride it? If you do, then that is somebody, and the answer is still "I would let someone ride my Vision".

Okay, I shift the blame for this post back over to VaParadox, I was only his assistant due to his professed ineptness in using the huge NEW POLL button at the top of the forum right next to the NEW POST button, unless the forum misters pulled his rights.

Passionate sorts we are and some topics should never be brought up, much like politics and religion in a public setting. I get amused over at theVMC.com forum because most of the time it takes 20 replies to get an answer to the original topic as so many love to cut up. Some of it is down right hilarious too and breaks up the monotony of being so serious at every post.

So I leave my random ramblings to say this, please understand the liability if you do let someone ride your scoot, and I think for most of  you that is a given. I believe there is not a soul on this forum that would flipantly let someone take off on their Vision without serious consideration of risk and liability. We read time and time again that accidents are caused at a high rate when the person "borrowed" a bike and was unfamiliar with it. If you really read into the demographics of these accidents, most are young or inexperienced or both. So I wouldn't let Mr. 25 year old crotchrocket rider even sit on my Vision, but Mr. 40 years on a Harley Ultra I would toss him the keys as long as he tossed me his. He knows my pride and joy is the same as his and if he wanted to feel the road on the Vision, happy be him, but I also know him too, that's how come I know he's got experience.

Okay I rambled more than I wanted to about this topic but I can't get my fingers to stop. Just my thought on the topic. By the way, I do have one serious standing invitation for one guy to ride mine. However, it is based off the fact if he's not able to get out to the dealer to ride one for himself. He would be only the second to ride if he does, the other was in the parking lot with a Big Dog rider that is/was thinking of getting a Vision, and I did ride his pride Dog.

Here is a little food for thought gentlemen. About 6 years ago an associate of mine let a FRIEND and experienced rider take his Goldwing for a spin and the friend was in a BAD accident. The associate of mine was pretty well off, married and living the American dream. He is now single, broke and homeless. You see the family of the friend sued and they basically took everything he owned and/or will own. The worst part is the "friend" is still a permanent member in a home.
So while it is your scoot and your decision to make with regards to the question posed..... assume the worst can and will happen before you decide.

What? Was there something wrong with the bike the owner failed to tell the friend before riding that was the cause of the accident? I'm I missing something here, on the premise that I can be sued if I let a responsible and insured human being because of something they failed to do or didn't do, or wasn't their fault such as a car hitting them. I'm sure the point could be argued and a lawsuit can be brought on almost anything.

I can see living with the guilt that if I let someone ride my motorcycle and something tragic happened to them, but if they are licensed and insured to ride motorcycles why would the owner be sued for allowing a responsible adult ride their ride. If that is case I should put an iron fence around my yard and never let anyone come onto my property in fear of them doing something and hurting themselves and thus sueing me.

Sorry for the rant but I need education here as something seems out of place with this story. Maybe there is a zillion stories out there just like that, then I will recant and never let anyone ever sit on my bike unless I'm in the pilot seat, and even then, it would only be family after I forewarn them that if we go anywhere they might not make it back alive and sign a waiver. If I let the neighbors kid ride my motorcycle and he wrecks and kills or is mamed, then I see me being responsible, sued and homeless in short order. But I can't see the same thing happening with a experienced and licenced rider.

I've got my hands out, start stacking the stories....

Why am I climbing into this rat hole? I did some short research on the internet, where a rider borrows someone elses bike and wrecks it. In short the answers of all that I read is that the driver, not the owner is responsible for the crash. One even entertains by the parent of a boy who wrecked the bike that her son was inexperienced and the reply; then he should not have gotten on the bike, taking the liability away from the owner.

To each his own on this matter, is it wise or prudent to be willy nilly in letting other people ride your bike. Do I have a resounding NO? Is there are circumstance in which you would let someone else ride your bike? Gasp, yes.

I hope all of you ride safe, be safe and remind others to be safe. Let's have a get together where we'll stand in a circle, toss our keys up in the air and the one that lands closest to your feet that is your ride for the day.

Peace out!

for the record gentlemen. In an automobile accident no matter of what type of vehicle, in a law suit you cannot claim someones tangible property ie THEIR HOME, in such a suit. You cannot sue someone farther than the limits of their liability. There is more to this that would put you all to sleep should you be forced to read it but rest assured. If you loaned your motorcycle to someone who was licensed to ride motorcycles, and for whatever reason they crashed or were injured, YOU WOULD NOT LOSE YOUR HOME. Just like Bernie Medoff will not lose his personal residence either although the thief should.
