Canada's largest victory dealer in canada located in Halifax, Nova Scotia has gone bankrupt. Next dealer for me is a 3 hr. drive. What type of motor oil and filter can one use instead of the victory product. I have a 2008 vision. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

to my understanding the later GL1800 oil filter fits your Vision, but don't tell anyone. By the way, so does the tires and batteries. Amsoil here as well, runs quieter, and shifts easier or so it seems.

Somewhere I read that a Mazda car filter is the same fit up as a Victory. If you can verify that, I'd be picking up filters and MOBILE 1 20W50 Motorcycle oil at Canadian Tire. And as any good Cunnuk knows, CTC put oil on sale on a regular basis.
Sorry to hear you lost your dealer, hopefully someone else will open up a store, Halifax is a big City. I lost my dealer in London, Ont, which is a 2hr drive, now I have to go to Burlington, 2.5 hrs. Hopefully there won't be any repair trips this year

If you have a Polaris ATV dealer near you, the larger atv's use the same filter as the vision.

YES THE POLARIS TWIN ATV/RANGER IS THE SAME FILTER. YOUR ATV/RANGER CAN ALSO GET YOU THE VICTORY OIL. (ONE OF VERY FEW THINGS THAT THEY CAN GET YOU.) JUST ASK THEM AND THEY CAN PUT IT ON THEIR OIL ORDER. THE LINK IS A GREAT OPTION BECAUSE POLARIS IS OVER $40.00 NOW. HOPEFULLY THAT IS CURRENT.

Are you talking about the copper washer? I bought a new one and then each oil change I swap them out. Easier than fishing in the old oil for one. I have used 2 for years. I clean all the mating surfaces and inspect each use. Never had a leak. So buying a change kit to get an extra washer may be worth it?

The oil filter washers are available at any auto parts store. Much cheaper than Victory too.

Actually, the exact replacement filter is the one for the GL1500 Goldwing. The one for the GL1800 also fits, but it's more expensive than the one for the GL1500 for some reason. My GL1800 riding buddy uses the GL1500 filters on his GL1800............

WIX 51356 or NAPA GOLD 1356 available at nearly any good auto parts store. You can get more expensive filters, but not better IMHO. I paid $4.55 for mine. I use Amsoil and change it at 5000 miles. It costs more for the oil, but I run it twice as long as the Victory oil, so the price per quart of Amsoil is effectively halved.

My local parts store cross referenced the Polaris oil filter number and came up with an STP match. It's a real small filter. I didn't like the looks of it. I went with Bosch 3323 which I read about on another thread. Worked fine. I used Mobil 1 full synthetic since I can get it five minutes away. I'd prefer Amsoil, but I never seem to plan ahead and order it.

I've been using the Wix 51356 for four years on my Kingpin and now on the Vision. I've used Victory, Royal Purple, AMSOIL, and Castrol. 15w-40 to 20w-50.....all worked fine.

Oil Plug Washer? A simple wipe with a rag will do. Besides, if you get the oil plug washer, you'll have to get the water heater for it also. But the water heater got froze when it became a cold topic.

I changed the oil last night and all went well. I used the Wix 51356 and Amsoil 20w-50. I plan on planning better next time. I bought the oil at a local shop for a few dollars more then I wanted. It is nice to buy local but next time I will order it ahead of time.

I had to reuse the washer. I bought a 12 mm washer from the parts house and the I.D. was fine but the O.D. was a bit large. I will buy a few to put in my parts supply for the next change.

I was given a funnel by my next door neighbor. It was great for putting the old oil back in the bottles to send to recycle but a little short (but worked) to refill the Vision. I will add a funnel to my list of things I need to buy.

I did not have a 2 1/2 inch oil filter wrench....no problem I just used some large channel locking pliers. I will be buying a proper oil filter wrench in the future....well maybe.

varyder, your killing me man...ha ha.

I went ahead & got a few extra washers from the dealer. Tryin to find them cheaper and the right size was more of a task as I've got some of the right size hole but the are too big around. I try to make sure my tools I carry has everything for the road. My filter "wrench" is a hose clamp in conjuction with either pliers or good grunt and push with the screwdriver. I don't suggest the srewdriver manuever as it can slip. The last time I was able to grip and turn with hand, and I didn't eat my wheaties. I've got a small but long funnel I use that works well.

varyder,

My brother used to just stab across the old oil filter with a 3 or 4 inch long Philips screwdriver and twist. I just can not bring myself to that kind of violence. I shot some video of the oil change last night and I might post it on Youtube later.

Tonight I am going to do the rest of the inspections and checks for the 7500 Mile checkup.

One half an inch to a full inch of rain is predicted today so I drove the '03 Trailblazer.

I will buy washers on Saturday from Napalm in Austin. They are hosting the demo bikes and I want to ride the Kingpin Low.
