Posts: 266 Hartland, , WI | Tim's story I stole from Songfan's post of Hardcore riders and got me thinking...

Ah I can relate!
A few years ago I planned a 4-state in 4 night ride for my wife and I , I posted it on a SCRC forum and the next thing I know I have 20 bikes on this ride...(trip not fun, etc.)
That was the last time I ever anything did that!
Tim
I was impressed that Tim (& wife) had:
A:"the balls" B: "the belief that bikers were like him" C: "taken a sever blow to the head as a young boy"
D: "thought others wanted to see what he wanted to see" E: All of the above
....to put out an open invite to not only go on a ride, but a ride that meant you had to hang with these people for four nights too! Has anyone else "Boldy gone where no man has gone before" and planned a ride with total strangers?
We all see life through our own eyes and experiences and I give Tim & his wife all the credit in the world for being so generous and putting an invite out there to come join them...sometimes I wish I could just take a walk on the wild side like that.
There are a number of you out there that I would love to meet and chat with but my "free time/recreation time" is so precious to me that if I wanted to have the odds in my favor that I would have a good time on a four night journey...I better know you! Then if you are going to ride with me I'm gonna want to have some experience with you to see how sane you ride especially if your are going to be behind me.
I'd love to hear more stories like Tim's if you have them. I got my Vision for a reason...I want to take some longer multi-day/night trips and can see if you had a great group (good riders - fun people) that not only would the journey be fun on the bike but just as much fun at night telling stories, etc.

Cheers! |

| my first trip from phily to sturgis was with a bunch of guys-7 to be exact-whom i had only met once at the pre trip meting. turned out to be a great trip. when we got there we hooked up with 15 other guys most of whom i had never met and that was great too. the next time i went it was just my brother and me. not a bad ride but not as much fun. i guess it could go either way.

I have to say I was guilty of E...
It was fun for the most part but the 45 minute gas stops that should have been 10 minutes and the "why aren't we going here?", or "I would have taken this road" during the ride was enough to drive me crazy.
I like riding in a group, don't get me wrong- but on this ride it got to be a bit much...

Thanks for the follow up Tim...I was wondering if you were going to notice the thread...glad you got a yuk from it, that was the intention.
I ride "Lone Wolf" 75% of the time but my favorite is with the BH on the back. We live by some very nice scenery and I love it when she says how about a ride. I/we haven't had the bike that long and are excited about traveling on it soon, but it really is just great therapy for me like golfing at the end of the day. I love being able just to get out for quick 45-60 minute ride after work and unwind and then back home to help with dinner, etc.
But I can imagine sharing a good afternoon or road trip for a few nights/days would really be fun! I am hoping that between this site and the Victory-Rider Network that I keep meeting fellow Vision riders and share some time together hearing each others pipes!

Posts: 54 Orangeville, PA | Actually I have done it twice and had a great time with awesome people both times. First time was to NY with a group off the Kingpin site and second time was to the Blue Ridge with a group from the VMC and would do it again in a second. Apparently I just got lucky to hook up with 2 groups that shared the same riding style as myself and my wife but can say I have backed off going to group rides on other sites because of the riding style mentioned in the planning stages. If someone doesn't ask before I do than I make it a point to ask what to expect on the ride such as speed, stop lengths and frequency, riding or drinking tour, etc. As i said guess I've just been lucky but I am always looking to go for a ride and if that means I have to take a chance on occasion so be it. |
