Posts: 460 Centennial, CO | Dealer left my manual on the work bench and I found out 30 minutes and 45 miles later. I need to change the channel. Can someone tell me how to do this? |

Just hold the 'COM' button for two seconds and it will flip to 'channel adjust'. Push the COM up to increase channel and ICOM to decrease. |

The CB does have its challenges at times and I wonder even with the upgrade if it works well, or drivers are just talking less. I like to keep it on while traveling to hear of trouble spots, and it came in handy on the trip back from atlanta. |

LOL! I DO talk to myself. Drives my co-workers crazy. Or so they say. But now they too are talking to themselves. Ha!
Ok...question. I listen but don't hear people much. Is this really a short distance CB? I am not minding so much but would like to get good reports from truckers as I am riding down some long highway I have no clue about.
Oh...another one...if I turn my squelch down to less than 7 I get a TON of engine noise. I realize THIS is what the squelch is for. But if I need it down low to hear that guy that is 20 miles away, I can't hear him over the alternator whine. Any suggestions? |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I use to be a real CB geek, Double R (Ramblin' Rebel) in the days when CB was hot, had all that SWR stuff set and I could get almost a good 10 miles out of a steel whip antenna. Ran a base and validated tallking 50 miles and always ran barefoot. But the best you can expect out one at normal circumstances is about 5 miles at best on a good car CB, and it seems that the CB on the Vision runs around 3 miles or so. Of course you have to consider line of sight, hills, trees, and buildings all play a part. I've talked a good two miles with great reception and output, and I think you'll do well. If you are getting any better than that, your doing great. I keep my squelch set at 10 unless I need to try to squeeze out that distance and then I'll drop it to open squelch with minimal engine noise. Engine noise is always to be expected on a stock setup, but you could spend a little money and do some upgrades to make it a little better. I've not put the swr meter on this one but I suspect that it is close to what it ought to be. I get a little curious as sometimes I hear constant chatter, other times nil. Coming back from Atlanta I was running with the trucks and I wouldn't hear a peep and I'd do the radio check until someone said something. Finally I would get the radio check and then it would go silent again. I think it is just because they don't chatter like they use to. |

Posts: 460 Centennial, CO | Thanks, VA! I was beginning to think I was nuts OR my radio didn't work. I will take the former and leave the latter to IF/WHEN I have issues on the road with another biker (I have several that ride with radios).
BTW - My father is a HAM radio operator so I completely understand all the fun you may have had. I remember 'field day' for him was a treat for me as we were able to talk to many other countries. A bit more than the 50 miles...but then it again, it was also a better rig and tons more power with better freqs. I never did get my ticket nor do I really feel inclined. I am already a technogeek and going HAM would push me into just plain geek! LOL
Thanks again! Next time I am within 3 miles of ya, I will double click! |
