I am interested in anyone that has the Victory passenger back rest installed. I saw one at a dealer a couple of weeks ago and I have a question. It looked like the access panel behind the passenger seat had been "slotted" to accommodate the back rest frame. My question is this: Does the back rest come with a new, slotted access panel or is there a need to modify the existing panel?

Thanks in advance.

You'll have to modify your existing panel. The backrest does not come with a seperate slotted panel.

It does come with a second solid set of grommets to fill the slots if you have the backrest removed. The rear panel mod is fairly easy, but the template leaves the slot a bit wide. If I did mine again, I'd cut it narrower than what the template shows for a better grommet fit. It cuts easily with a dremel or other fine cutoff wheel, or even a fine hacksaw or coping saw blade. In any case, always cut with the teeth or wheel cutting from the paintside toward the back or you risk chipping the paint.

I cut my panel according to the directions, by using the supplied template. I put the panel in a soft
grip vise and cut it with a coping saw. This cut it very easily, just take your time. The grommets fit perfectly.

I have the backrest and rack, all the above information is correct. It is a very clean looking modification. I personally like the backrest and rear rack on the bike better than the big rear trunk which I would honestly end up storing in the garage 90% of the time. I have photos of the rest and rack if you need to detail. email me vaparadox@aol.com

I ordered my passenger backrest from Victory of Maine and not only got a great price on it but they also cut a panel for me and I sent them mine in return....at no extra cost. They are great folks to deal with and will do you right. Call and talk to Bill or Juanita.

If it were me I would probably just purchase an extra panel. One for riding with the backrest and another for riding without. That would be my contribution to the rebuilding of the economy.
