Visionary
Posts: 3006 San Antonio, TX | Today my friend/coworker and I rode to lunch. My friend is a wizard with a sewing machine and does his own patch work. About a month ago, I told him about a large Victory patch I have. I told him it would be nice on the back of my leather vest. He took them home and fixed me up.
Today my friend had on his usual Gypsy MC vest on and rode his HD 2003 Fatboy. He has HD under his skin but does like other bikes. He even has an old KZ1000 and a new HD 2009 Ultra Classic at home.
This wasn't our first lunch run. Many times on the way to lunch people have rolled down the window to say nice things about the Vision. It has happened so much that a few times I would ask them to complement my friends ride. Sometimes people would find us in a restaurant to say hello.
Today was a little different. I was wearing my vest eating a burger when two guys walked in. They saw the vest and walked right up to me ignoring my friend. Both had big smiles on their face. "Is that your Vision?" before I could say "Yes" the other said "That is one beautiful bike". I said "Thanks". The closest guy reached out to shake my hand. "You are cutting edge."
The guys were Polaris reps. One was from about 20 miles North of San Antonio and the other from Ohio. The guy from Ohio just landed in San Antonio. They were catching lunch on the way to a meeting in Austin.
My friend asked them to join us. We had a very nice chat. The local guy even knew my family. He used to work for Hilti and sold tools to the construction company that my grandfather started in the 1920's. The company is still in business and now run by my cousins.
They did their best to explain that there are "Polaris Reps" and "Victory Reps" to take care of the different dealers. We also talked of the closing of a local dealer and the opening of the new dealer in town. We all feel that the new dealer will be getting up to speed quickly.
They described the security and paperwork that they endured the first time they saw a Victory Vision. It was quite intense.
All in all we had a nice chat and my friend and I rode back to work. It was really good talking guys that work at Polaris over a burger.
