I wouldn't think that it is the rack that is or isn't functional... I would question how much weight the lid of the trunk can hold..
Or are you asking is there a less priced one?

be careful not to assume that the trunk rack has more useability than it actually does, the last thing you want to do for aerodynamics and stability is make the rear end taller than the front end. I consider it more bling then user friendly meaning its designed to hold flat smooth, non weighty items, thats about it.

I had the trunk rack on my '08 vision. REALLY small. Bought the Cortec bag that just held one set of rain gear and a pair of gloves. Too small to be of any real use. Didn't want to put that much weight on the lid. And of course the aerodynamics of putting a bigger bag on top, just didn't seem to fit right. When I bought the '09 Vision, I didn't have the old rack from the '08 put on it. There's a better way of carrying extra stuff than with that trunk rack. To me, it kind of took away from the lines of the bike.

Ed, define more functional?

When I first got the luggage rack the tie-downs I had for the wing did not work as they did on the small round tubular rack. So I went and bought a net tie-down that works very well with the biggest item I want to put on there, a very small overnight type bag. Now, I was no longer able to carry my 25' extension ladder, or mount my carTopper luggage carrier, but it works very well with the bag.

I comtemplated the same question on the aftermarket but the longer I've had the luggage rack the more I like how it blends in with the bike, is bling and for me, functional.

But I see the answer from me is no at this time, but I'm sure in time something will come.
