| I was just wondering if any fellow Vision Pilots are involved with these fine organizations, and if so what chapter you are with. Would having a post on the site to notify us of future missions in support of our veterans and service members be of intrest? This is unofficial but I personally would love to see this. | |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Both are outstanding orgainzations and wish I could involve myself more. I have done one RT tribute, 2006, when I had my GoldWing. Because of other commitments I have not been able to participate with the Vision. I've inquired about the Patriot Guard with the local chapter leader and I have not heard nothing back. Speaking with someone else about this they said they had the same problem and went to the nationl level to get a local response, but they are now a Guard rider. After looking over everything I realize that I cannot commit to at a drop of a hat participation and feel I could not serve the organization well in that regard. I take every opportunity to pay tribute and honor our veterans, being one myself, and our currently serving protectors of freedom. I am hoping that you will get the response desired and if my level of commitment diminishes in other areas then certainly riding with the Guard would become a greater priority, truly a great organization of great Americans. | |

I've been an active member of the Patriot Guard Riders for about 3 years. Have done 105 what we call "missions" with them. There are not "chapters" per se. Each state has a "forum" on the national board. The only thing you need to do to become a "member" is give them your e:mail address. All that does is allow you to post messages on the forum. You don't even have to do the email thing if you don't want to. The national site is "patriotguard.org". The right side of the home page will list ALL the missions and memorials, welcome homes, Help on the Home Front (HOTH) missions as soon as we are asked by the families to attend. If you go to the home page, click on "forums" on the left side of the home page, and then scroll down until you get to your state, you should be able to post your questions. In addition, on the home page there is a site for ALL "State Captains". Find the state you want and click on the State Captains's email address and ask away. Nation wide, there are over 160,000 members. Our mission statement is written on the home page. We don't care if you ride a motorcycle or not. Just honor the soldier, the family, and the community. There are lots of activities we do besides attend funerals. We visit hospitals of wounded soldiers, help in the construction of new housing (in coordination with other "homes for our troops" people), attend "welcome homes" of our troops, etc. Usually, during Veterans day, we're asked to go to elementary schools and tell them about us. The American Legion Riders, usually have us participate with them during the Memorial day parades and/or memorials. Even spent 2 days last summer escoring Medal of Honor recipients to various school, so they could give their presentations to the students. VERY HUMBLING. Every state in the Union has a PGR organization. We are NOT a motorcycle club and don't advertise ourselves as such. (keeps the 1%'ers away) Actually, now that I think about it, we've had other "clubs" join us in honoring the fallen soldiers, with NO problems. We're all there for the same reason. Rolling Thunder has stood with us. As I said before, we don't attend the services unless specifically asked by the families. They are ALWAYS appreciative of our presence. VERY rewarding and heart fulfilling to be able to so something like this for the families. Men, women, bikers, non-bikers, cagers are all a part of this organization. Just pull up the national site, look at the left side of the board, contact the state captain (if you wish) and wait for the next "mission." If not, just check the right side of the board, and wait for a mission in your state. Just click on it and it will take you to a thread that will eventually give staging information etc. Good people, GREAT organization and it makes me feel like I'm giving back in some way. Also, being a Vietnam Veteran (as a lot of us are), we use this as a way of showing people to NEVER FORGET. I promise you, you will be welcomed with open arms, wherever you go. Any more questions, just contact me and I'll help you out as much as I can. It concerns me that others have tried to contact the PGR without success. In the end, you don't actually need to. Just wait for the missions, read where you need to go and just show up. Let them know this is your first mission and they'll help you out with what you need to do.

First with all due respect let me say we do not call them chapters as this implies we are a motorcycle club which we are not. Yes there are a few PGR members on this site.
I belong to the Minnesota Patriot Guard. http://www.patriotguard.org/ is the site for the entire entire national and some state information. There is also link to your state captain. Contact your state captain and inquire as to your state having its own web page that would have more detailed information for your local area. If you don't belong to the PGR you can join while at the national site it is absolutely FREE all that is required are Honor, Respect and Dignity. Besides riding missions there are other events happing that do not require drop of the hat timing and any participation on your part is always greatly appreciated. There is Help on the Home Front, this past weekend the Rosemount Family Readiness Group had a family picnic and some of us attended simply to grill the hot dogs, brats and burgers and let the families know how much we care. Please visit our state web site http://www.mnpatriotguard.org/index.asp. We all do what we can when we can.
