| According to the manual and online specs we have a 6 gallon tank AND a one gallon reserve. Also per the manual the "low fuel" light comes on with one gallon left in the tank. There's no manual reserve (as far as I know). In my experience, the "Low Fuel"/range indicators seem to come on when it says I've got 40-50 miles range left. The most I've ever pumped into my bike is 5.3 gallons, and that was slowly, right up to the neck. So the question is, did I have 1.7 gallons left? The Vision's got more than adequate fuel capacity for me, I don't want to run more than 200 miles or so w/o a break anyway, but we've all been in those situations where we're not ready to stop but we don't know how far the next gas will be. ~Shy |

Posts: 742 North Orange County CA | A reserve in the traditional sense (or even a petcock) would be problematic on a bike with an EFI system. EFI fueled machines tend to really hate out of fuel conditions.
My wife once owned a european car with EFI that required a trip to the dealer for a computer reset to operate properly after running out of gas; EVERY TIME she ran out of gas, but that is another software problem and a subject for another forum.

Posts: 3204 Memphis | Because of the split 3 gallon tanks with the crossover you only have about 5.5 gallons usable. If I burn off 5 gallons, I figure I'm walking in the next 20-25 miles. |

Posts: 600 Linwood, MI | By the way, if you ever run out of fuel and have a hard time getting it started after you fill up, just cycle the kill switch on and off about 5 times, leaving it on for about 3-5 seconds each time to let the fuel pump run. I'm not saying how I know, just that I know... |

5.3 plus 1.7 = 7 gallons. Remember a fuel gage is just a fancy looking idiot gage. The float is not an accurate measuring instrument.
You can't figure by how the gage reads. You may fill it up into the neck, it maybe leaning so you get more in, the gas is cold and you get more volume. The best way is figure miles to gallons. The low fuel light comes on it's time to look for a station or get ready to walk.
Have you noticed when going up and down hills your low fuel light goes off and on? Gravity moves the gas and the float reads the level at that time.
Sure you could bend the arm that holds the float and get a different reading.
The Chinese company that made the sending unit for my 1960 Ranchero built it upside down. It still reads fuel level but it indicates I use 3/4 of a tank real quick. It actually is about half a tank. When it points to "E" I fill up and only put about 9 gallons in a 20 gallon tank. |

Posts: 257 Under the Rule of Jedi - Masshole | I do know that if I come home and even if the low fuel light just does come on, the next time I go to start the bike, it will not run on the side stand. I have to stand it up straight for it to run, even though I still have about 1 gallon left. |

Posts: 204 guelph ontario | If you put over 6 gal in a 6 gal tank-perhaps the pump was off and the retailer was making a few extra cents. Most cagers would not notice the difference but with bike it is easier to catch. |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | there was a thing around here where a few gas stations were busted because the gas pumps were reading more than what it was actually pumping.. on another note, is this true with EFI bikes as well? but i heard it is not good to run your gas tank very low as it makes the fuel pump work harder and someone told me run warmer as well? dontknow if this is true or not. |

That's why on the earlier V92C models that had the external fuel pump there were a lot of failures. I myself went thru 7 pumps before the new upgrade. |

Posts: 172 Prescott, Az | I dropped mine the other day on the way to the gas station. The fuel was very low but said I had a range of about 30 miles. As I made a slow hard right in a parking lot, the bike died & landed on its skids in just a split second. I really do appreciate those skids. Aside from a little embarassment, i made it to the station & filled up. I think in the future I will gas up long before it says "low fuel". |
