I've had Progressive since I started riding again 8 years ago.  When I got my Vision I got a renewal quote of around 750 for 25/50 full coverage.  When the bill came in it was 917.

I googled some local agents and sent out some emails.  Somehow an agent in S. FL got my email and has now written me a renewal policy w/Progressive for 641.45 for 50/100 full coverage. (My cars aren't w/Progressive).

I have no explanation for this but I've got a receipt for payment in full and a policy number so the moral of the story is check around.

I don't know about the numbers you listed, Im in VA, so they might call it something different. I've had them for bike insurace since 2004 when a guy who had them for years told me how their premiums go down each year. At least for me, it was true. My old bike policy went down each year, and my renewal this year went down as well. But, I have seen that agents within the same company can offer different rates. Don't know why, but it pays to shop around. Usually though, having a multi policy seems to help. My cars are under my homeowners, but they don't do bikes, so never bothered to shop around.

We just shopped ours Had it with Liberty Mutual and now saved 500.00 annually with Progressive. HUGE savings and full coverage. Also learned that "replacement coverage" is not what it sounds like it is. If you are paying for "replacement coverage"
you will NOT get a new bike if you total your old one. What it means is that the insurance company will set a value for your old bike, then THEY will shop to find you a bike the same age and mileage and THEY will acquire it for you. Basically, its not worth the money.
The smarter thing to do is up your coverage on your add ons and accessories Example, I added 6k to my coverage which covers all of my chrome, gps, stereo upgrade etc, so if i total my bike, they have to replace the bike WITH all of my accessories added.
Bottom line, replacement isnt "literal". so dont pay for what you arent going to get in the real world.

I went with Gieco for several reasons, but the bottom line is SHOP AROUND. Different states have different rates and just because one company has the best rates in one state, doesn't mean the same in another. Also... find an Agent that knows bikes.

I chose Gieco for Several reasons..

  • Credit for years experience riding.
  • One of the few that would do more than 4 bikes
  • With multi-bikes, rate was based on % bike was used. Listing the Guzzi V11 LeMans sport bike as the one least used and the 81 Convert as the primary bike saved me oodles. The Silverwing's insurance was very low, and that was Lisa's primary ride, and I was able to show they I never rode the silverwing and she never rode the LeMans or the V92C. I don't recall the exact numbers but there was close to $200/year difference just depending which bike was selected as the primaries, based on the experience of the rider.

I'm going to see if I can locate the quotes... but the yearly number varies between around $600 total for the year and nearly $5000 !!!!!!! just depending on the company, all doing the SAME coverage.

My method was to figure out what coverage I wanted... and send that same requirement to every insurance company I could find that did bikes.

Hello My fellow Vision Riders my name is Pete Wagener and I represent Primerica Financial Services – one of the largest

money – especially on your motorcyle, auto and homeowners insurance. Its called Primerica Secure™. It's a new opportunity we are offering to help you save money on your motorcyle, auto and homeowners'(and other toys) coverage you need.
There's absolutely no obligation to buy. Primerica Secure is just an opportunity to see if you could
save the average $450 a year compared to your current coverage. Does that sound like something
you'd be interested in?

I can understand why you might be a little hesitant. You may be happy with your current insurance
provider. But why pay more for the same coverage? With Primerica Secure you can get multiple rate

Same Insurance company! Wow, I am with Progessive. My Annual was $1,604.00 for 4 bikes. It really hurt, plus all the personal property taxes. I might have to google some local agents.

Thanks, Herb

Please keep in mind when shopping for insurance; rates are important, but, unfortunately, rates are the only thing some people consider. How claims are handled is also important. Cheap insurance that starts an uphill fight to get a fair settlement on a claim may turn out to be not much of a bargain. Just saying, take the trouble to research how a company handles claims and consider that when shopping, along with the premium cost.

I'm going to second Mudge's post and follow up on it..........

When you purchase insurance you should talk to the people that KNOW what insurance companies do with claims. I run a large collision facility. I KNOW insurance companies claims practices inside out. I know which ones are great, which ones are good, and which ones are BAD. Being in the industry for 30+ years I've seen thousands of customers who purchase insurance based solely on a price and then have a claim and then they find out the negatives of price shopping. I'm not going to say that cheap insurance is bad insurance, not always, but I will say that in general the cheaper the insurance the worse the claims practices. And you don't find out about this untill you have a claim, and by then its to late.

True, there might be some folks here who have had a good claim experience with ABCXYZ insurance. But the problem is that there are some insurance companies that are great in one region of the U.S. but are the worse in another region. There are very very few "national" insurance companies who are known for having good and/or great claims handling thru the whole nation.

Want to know about your insurance company??? Want to see where they "rank" on claims handling??? Ask a few of your local collision shops !! I have a feeling that after doing do this there will be quite a few of you who will be reviewing your choice of insurance companies and probably making a change. I agree with the title of this thread....shop your insurance...but PLEASE shop wisely. Or at a minimum do some google searching using words like "ABCXYZ insurance sucks" and see what you come up with about your insurance company.
