Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | well, about a month ago I nearly get slammed going through an intersection. Today, I'm stopped at a stop sign making a right turn and got the wife unit on the back. The guy behind me thinks I've pulled away already and pushes me about three feet making contact to the left bag to his right front clip.
I'm not sure what real damage has been done but we went on our journey after exchanging insurance information with a deputy present. Seems there may be about $2k but incrediably I believe it is all cosmetic with the exception of a bracket or two. The left side appears to be pushed forward about a 1/4 of an inch.
Ha! he thinks I pulled away , how about looking in front of you before you drive forward. His excuse was based off the fact that I did a rolling stop as there was no cars coming. At this intersection it is a dead stop, as at all intersection, but this it is easy to miss something.
Oh by the way, he also gave it away, he also admits he was looking at the bikes going straight, not the one that was directly in front of him .
The Vision is an incredible machine as I believe I could put everything back in place and it might be a good time to do a mural over the scratched area inside a of a repaint
Ride safe y'all. |

Let us know how the repair and insurance works out.

Exact same thing happened to us last fall. Total bill was about $3,000. It cracked the sidebags and they had to be replaced, as well as the back end and lights. No damage to the frame though.
Hope yours works out as well. |

Posts: 1324 So Cal | If I am second in line I NEVER move until the guy in front of me is gone. Too many think they know what the guy in front will do and end up in his trunk. I would like to think we are all better drivers in four wheels because we see so much when we are on two. Unfortunately, we cant avoid all of it. Damage to the bike can be fixed, human life cant. Glad to hear your OK. |

Posts: 204 guelph ontario | S--t. What a pain in the ass-this type of stuff happens way too often. Last week my friend, a rider of 42 accident free years totalled his bike when a cager turned left in front of him at an intersection. Some cracked ribs etc. Driver was some young guy with a loud piped car with music blaring-says he didnt see him -usual story. Usual illegal left turn ticket -a 50 buck fine and a few points. I think we need tougher penalities and better driver ed. I am thinking executions for a few of these guys would probably improve the vision of other drivers quickly. Glad you are ok Chris. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I was upset more that the guy wasn't paying attention and assumed things then him actually hitting my bike. His friend got mad when I told him that stop means stop and that is what I did and I don't pull forward until my path is clear. His friend said they was 40 years old and didn't need a life lesson. I told him I was reminding myself outloud to pay attention because stop means stop and always check in front of you before you move, reminding myself that after 35 years of driving only two people have hit me because they were not paying attention and were unavoidable on my part. Now, that doesn't make me any better than anyone else as I could be flatten on the way home today and I know that, so I count each and everyday a blessing and try my best not to ruin it for someone else.
Thanks for all the well wishes, we both are all right and the wife unit is now very concerned at every stop we make, but is okay with riding still. I'm glad she still doesn't know about the lady running the redlight on me as the bike would be on ebay within the hour.
This is the reason I ride like no one ever sees me as even when I'm on their hood they still don't see me, go figure.

I find it hard to believe the Bentley will be down for an inordinate amount of time. A few of us other ones will have the opportunity to catch up in mileage.
Did you dump it or did it stay upright?
I say feel free to give him a "FREE" life lesson of looking where your going. Sounds like he needed it. As for his "40 year old virgin buddy" maybe he should have been driving instead of riding b*ktch.
Glad you and the Mrs. VaLongDistanceRyder made it through with a few ruffled feathers and some bent up motorcycle pieces.
Here's another reason to need the Reverse! As soon as he made contact, put that beast in reverse and show him how it really works! |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Sitting at the stop sign making sure nothing is coming the wife says. "He isn't going to stop, he's too close." I look in the rear view and I'm trying to look to see if I can go when he makes contact. I hold the front brake locked and I don't know what I say then. The wife is getting a little excited but not upset. He pushes us about three feet before realizing I've not moved and he has hit us, but he's not backing up either. I get of the bike and tell him to back up which he does acting like "what for?". I'll not rehash the rest the wife calls the boy (our son) and tells him we're okay and what has happen. Son replies "I bet dad is blowing a gasket."
He recalls the time the lady pulls out into my path and I do all I can to move around without me hitting her or she hitting me, in which I go into the oncoming lane of the 4 lane road to avoid her, fortunately no cars are coming in the opposite direction. Had I not did what I did I would have t-boned her and probably killed her at 45 mph in her little camary and she still didn't see the high riding RED Jeep Cherokee with headlights burning heading right for her.
She ended up clipping my right rear before she ever knew I was on the highway. I was extremely upset considering the possible outcome knowing that I possibly could have killed her and left her young daughter motherless and her husband a widower, who was about 3 minutes behind. When the cop came, we shared insurance information and he got done with her first and let her go. I recounted that I moved to the oncoming lane to try to avoid her and it finally registered in his mind what I had said. He said he realized then what I had done and that she should have got a wreckless driving ticket or something like that.
I did blow a gasket then, which was about 12 years ago. But Saturday, still aggrevated about the avoidable accident, I did not blow a gasket. |

Which is why he did not fare well at the stopping location. A snapping turtle in your lap, probably not the best idea. I'm just trying to look out for all the creatures. |

ironically I work within a few miles of VaPsycoParadoxical and though in my concern of my fellow man would not stop and do such a feat, would only wish that I could.
As a kid I was told that a snapping turtle would only let go of its bite when it would thunder. So wanting to know if that was true, I would wait for a thunderstorm to try and find a snapper, so the pain would not last as long. I never have been able to find one close to a thunderstorm and the theory stands unproven for me to this day..... I need help.... |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Well I finally touch base with the Ins. Adjuster and we're meeting tomorrow. She wanted to know where the bike was and I told at work, so she knows I'm still riding. She says it'll be raining tomorrow and I told her I would still ride. She laughs and says she wants to shake my hand because I'm a diehard. Her husband, she says, rides a Harley Ultra and it doesn't come out of the garage if there is a cloud.
Sounds like she is very easy going as all she wants to do is get some pics and an estimate from the dealer prices. We'll see. I'm still in awe that a 2,000lb car can push my 1,000 bike w/riders three feet and by all appearance it looks to be a slightly misaligned saddlebag door and a scratch about a foot long along the edge.
The dealer reminded me yesterday of the 10th Anny that got slammed by an F150 and destroyed the rear cosmetics, zero structure damage and was back on the road when the plastic came in. Then he said he had a guy get bumped on a Harley UC and it destroyed the swingarm and everything else and had to be totalled.
I think Victory is onto something here, this is more than just basic innovation, it has changed the way we think about motorcycles. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Okay, the adjuster comes and she is admiring the bike. She sees the spot right off the bat but say it is a beautiful big bike. As mentioned before, her husband rides a HD but she doesn't like being a pillion because of these very things, she's seen too much. However, she wants to be able to ride herself and will be taking a course soon, her and a friend. She reminded me that she has seen too much and usually it is the family she is talking too, or if it is the rider they are usually in a wheelchair. She also reminded me that since I ride so much I up my chances and after being an insurance adjuster for 6 years I hold the record of a bike being so new with so many miles, 19 months with 44,200. She couldn't get over that and asked if I wore chaps and jacket, and I responded yes, most of the time.
She took her pictures but needs to get with the dealer for the price list and labor. But that won't happen until next week as they need to look at my bike again to make sure and the techs are out the rest of this week. No biggy. Now, the tough part. I have planned to take the bike apart to include the exhaust before this even happened. I have the option of making the repairs myself, but if I come across something else while fixing, I have to take it to the dealer so they can have the adjuster come out and take pictures and make a new assessment. The Vision is to big to put in a box if it is all taken apart. But, the tech and I both agree that it probably just some brackets that are bent and the door that needs to be replaced, "maybe" the left pipe. I'm willing to do all this myself. But, if I let them do it, I get a rental, but the Victory dealer doesn't rent, but the HD folks do. Since my primary ride is a motorcycle then I can demand that as my rental be a like vehicle. I just don't know if I can hang on an HD for 2 or 3 weeks while they take my bike in. They have their summer shut-down in a couple weeks also, for more than a week.
So I'm comtemplating what I should do, keep and fix myself and risk finding something significant enough to warrant another look, or settling being without the bentley for a month while I play Willie G. And also, I will still take it down to do the exhaust myself and replace the belt as I had planned. I believe I can have it all done in my orginal alloted time doing the repairs myself and replacing belt and tires, and exhaust gaskets. Decision, decisions.... |
