This is true, and it just happened in Raleigh, NC. It seems we have talented folk out there but this art work has left the artist with jail time.

I can't help but believe that this will end up being among the many funny and infamous photos of all times.

Too bad we've become so self important, rigid and humorless.

It's a waste of tax dollars to prosecute the artist over $300 worth of plastic barrels. This is the kind of thing that turns a commute into a gift rather than an ordeal. Most of these barrels are beat to hell by cagers with poor depth perception and cell phones stuck to their faces anyway.

The construction company should have auctioned the sculpture, bought 3 new barrels, donated the rest of the proceeds to charity and started an annual art contest for best use of a recycled construction barrier.

Sad - the creator (sorry- I meant "perpetrator" may not be Michelangelo, but he has a great sense of humor and an artistic vision.

Certainly I would find this kind of highway art less distracting (and less annoying) than those giant electronic billboards which seem to be popping up everywhere.

I think they should give him a contract. Not too many people pay attention to "official " signs, Im sure this got many more peoples attention. But, times are tough. Government thought they needed the money more than he did. Im betting there is a GOOD REASON BEHIND THIS. I bet he had a traffic violation issue not long ago? Stemming from poorly marked road construction. To take time to alter road barriers, there's more to this story.
