Posts: 2027 Brighton, TN | Long story short,
I pulled up next to the guy on the Vstrom and he says just roll on the throttle. There's a long straight stretch of backroad over a 1/4 mile. I'm in 3rd and he's in second, I'm barely going 15-20, if that. So, I do as requested with no down shift, bike lugs up till it hits its powerband and away I go. But before I can get the big cam spun up and into it's powerband, dude is ahead by at least 50-60 feet, by the time I hit fourth, I can tell I'm starting to reel him in, but it's too late.
I stopped and asked him, what gear he was in and he was in 2, I feel like telling him to let's do a standing start and then see what happens, or at least to where I can be in 2nd or 1st also. Just kinda irked me.
I had to eat a lesson, which I wasn't even thinking about. I wonder if the Lloydz controller or cams would have made a difference. But since that is the first time I've put it up against something, it was fun but irritating, probably won't buy the dragstrip tune.
Anybody else have any good info, perfomance wise, against something else? | |

Posts: 1632 Jasper, MO | Ummmmm. Shoulda asked what gear he was in before the run. Neither of the bikes in question are particularly fast, relatively speaking. The DL650 has about 70% of the Hp of the Vision, but a little over half the weight. It's a little quicker in the quarter mile, to the tune of about 12.50's at 101 MPH. Lloyd's cams and mods might get your Vision to equal that. Next time, try a 3rd gear roll-on from about 30 to 35 MPH, with both bikes in 3rd. You'll most likely beat him to 100 MPH, or 120 MPH, where both bikes are topped out, unless he does a sneaky downshift to 2nd when you hit it. Sneaky downshifts are easy on Suzukis, and you won't know it if he has a quiet pipe.
