| I searched the forum but couldn't find an answer.
I bought my bike in Maryland in early May, but live in Virginia. I was given a 60-day Maryland temp tag and a temporary paper registration certificate that I kept in my wallet.
I was finally was able to transfer the registration to Virginia. So, unlike the temp MD cert, the perm VA registration cert is on heavier paper. I'm kind of reluctant to fold that up and stuff into my wallet, as that would make the wallet too thick.
So, how do ya'll store the registration? On your person or in the Vision's glove box? May be a silly question, but I'm concerned about the security of this document. In a car, I think most everyone will agree that keeping it in their glove box is universally accepted norm.
Thanks, Vince. |

| In MI. we have it on a very small piece of paper and it goes in my wallet with my hunting and fishing lic. But you could put it in a ziplock bag and put it in the bottom of your saddle bag or just tape in there somewhere, it's not like you need it unless your getting pulled over. |

Posts: 203 Rapid City, SD | Mine is fairly large and heavy paper as well. I fold mine up and keep my 4 MSF completion cards in with it and I have that all tucked in behind my military ID. I figure some of that might mean brownie points on a boarderline ticket. |

Posts: 935 Rockford, IL | With todays technology do registrations even need to be kept with the vehicle anymore? I don't think I've put my registration in my vehicle (or motorcycle) for probably ten years or more. And I've been pulled over twice and the officer hasn't even asked for the registration.
And....if someone "steals" or has your registration...what can they possibly do with it? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm just wondering.

With that said I bought a small leather folder and keep my registration, proof of insurance, dealer business card (with their cell numbers) and roadside assistance card in my trunk....its a 'one-stop shop' when I need one of these documents.

Posts: 600 Linwood, MI | Why not just put it in the left side glove box? It's hidden, so unless someone actually owns a Vision they won't know about it and it's lockable by turning the handlebars to the left and pushing the key in and turning it all the way to the left. |

| I modified the Victory trunk mirror kit by adding hinges and two latches so that I could use the space behind the mirror to store small items such as the registration and proof of insurance (Illinois requirement). The funny thing is that I didn't have to modify anything to do it as the mirror kit is molded such like it was designed for hinges on the mirror, but some bean counter must have ruled it out due to the couple of bucks for the material to make it work. |

| Everyone, thanks for the wonderful ideas! One of the posters indicated he puts stuff in the cavity used for the CB radio. Dummy me, I didn't know about that, cuz when I bought the bike, one option I bought was the trunk carpet, which naturally covered up that plastic access panel. And of course, the dealer never showed me that cavity. So, lifted that carpet! Wow, more storage space! Didn't occur to me that there was all that room underneath. So, problem solved! Now, I've a spot to store tools, the paperwork, and extra stuff!
Thanks!!!

But, for the record, Kansas requires registration and insurance and they WILL ask you for it. I did a year of installation security before I retired, and if you ever try to go on any military installation, it's also required there - and if you don't have the insurance papers, remember, the gate is already on the base. They will turn you around and if you have attitude they will make you park right then and there until you can produce it. If you're on a bike there are also a stack of regs about proper clothing and footwear before you will be admitted. |

Posts: 742 North Orange County CA | With proof of insurance, duplicate I.C.E. info and a copy of my medical insurance cards in a clear 6x9 self adhesive ziplock "packing list" type envelope attached to the front inside wall of the trunk. This keeps them easy to get to if I need them and in a spot that will probably still be attached to the bike and easy to find if an accident occurs.
UPS uses envelopes like these for international shipping documents (although theirs has printing on the adhesive side).
If any of you like the idea (most of my friends with touring bikes also use them) I have several hundred thousand of these in my warehouse. I will send a box to Vision-Riders.com free of charge (with their permission of course). Just let me know where you (JAM and Miles) want them sent if you agree.
They can make them available to members who place orders for other items from the online store. It wouldn't be cost effective to mail unless there were other items in the package. I know you guys wanted a new t-shirt or patches anyway right? |
