If I am listening to the ipod and switch sources (radio or weather) and then switch back to ipod it plays the ipod song for about one second then stops. This happens using the handlebar switch or the dash buttons. The only way to get the ipod to work again is to push the preset buttons on the dash which starts the ipod at the beginning. Any thoughts what this may be?

Hondafixer, you need to identify the type of iPod you have as far as generation goes and type. There was a post as to what can be used and what can't be used. Non-harddrive iPod's and the previous genaration iPod's should work, but you need to get down to the specifics first.

Now, with that out of the way, I use a iPod Touch 2nd Generation and it works great, most of the time. I have those funky times and use it daily. Sometimes it will not recognize at all, but it could be a host of reasons, but don't know which one.

Thanks, you might want to search on iPod here on th is forum as I think someone posted whether that would work. I think from off the top of my head this is one that will not work correctly unless you have an adapter.

Same thing happens to me HondaFixer. All the posts I read about so far suggest making sure you have the latest software upgrade. My dealer says Victory knows there's a problem and is working on a fix. He told me he will flash my radio to the latest when ever I can get it there. When mine does that I open the compartment up and push the play button until I can get it back to the dealer.

I have the same Ipod, and it does the same thing. Updated software 4.13 and still does it. If everything else works and it is just the Ipod control, I would replace the cord as I've heard some are defective.

I am also running the iPod Nano 3rd Gen. I do not have the issue.

Last November my Software and Hardware versions were upgraded to the following.

Radio:
SW 5.12A
HW 4

CB:
SW 5.12A
HW 6

As described by Vision Rider Spock:

You can access this info by going into the Radio System Diagnostic menu on your radio. To do this follow the instructions below.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ACC and turn the radio off (Victory Motorcycles is shown on display)
2. Turn ignition switch OFF.
3. Turn ignition switch back to ACC.
4. PRESS & HOLD the #1 preset button and MODE button while turning the radio power ON.
5. The diagnostics mode is entered. Press MODE to toggle through the diagnostic funtions. To exit diagnostics press Power button.

NOTE: A "Watchdog Error Cleared" message will occasionally appear as the first thing displayed. This can be ignored, it is an internal software notification.

6. The first screen shows the radio software (SW) & hardware (HW) revision.

7. The second screen is used to check buttons and button wiring circuts related to the radio / com. system. The display contains two lines of "Zeros". Each location corresponds to a radio button on the radio, handlebar switches, or passenger switches. A (0) represents a button not being pressed. A one (1) represents a button being pressed. If a "1" appears at an address in the upper or lower row of the radio display the button and circuit wiring are funtioning correctly.

8. The third screen shows Tuner location, which will always be set to USA.

9. The forth screen list the status of the radio amplifier.

10. The fifth screen displays vehicle speed. This can be used to test if the radio is receiving the vehicle speed CAN message from the PCM. It could also be used to test for a faulty CAN bus connection to the radio. If the speedometer is working but the radio is showing zero speed, it has no CAN connection.

11. If there are no accessories installed on the vehicle, the display will go back to the first screen. If accessories are installed, there are additional diagnostics screens for each accessory, showing the SW & HW revisions, etc.

DANGER WILL ROBISON, the classic iPods with harddrives will have issues because of the vibration. I've read of a few sucess stories with them, so I hope all works out well for you.

Honda, I was having the same type of problem. It got worse over time, after awhile, it stopped displaying the song info, then I couldn't change songs once I started the iPod, mine is also a 3rd gen nano. Finally, going to Myrtle, it started just dropping out. Turned out I had a bad iPod cable. Bought a new one, put it on, it was totally different. The song info updated faster, and it changed between songs better. They aren't cheap, but it fixed the problem and I didn't need to make an appointment. Most Victory dealers carry them in stock, or you could order it from the Victory website.

I thought it was a software problem as well, but the updates didn't improve it. Usually the simplest problem is the correct one. Shorted cable from being bent. Good luck.

HONDAFIXER, don't use the Classic iPods with the Vision. I had the 80gb one. Even if you don't have any problems with skipping or locking up, the vibration of the motorcycle will eventually ruin the iPod because it will cause the disc to come in contact with the drive head. Trust me.
