Has anyone tried one of these?:

I hooked up my Valentine w/a 12 volt adapter.  Works O.K., doesn't show too much (I mounted it on the plastic just under the console panel).  The windsheld mount doesn't work well, however, particularly if you want to raise/lower the windshield.

If I can get the detector mounted O.K. I'm going to order the power adapter from Valentine and just hard wire it in rather than keeping the 12 volt plug on.

I just use the suction cup mount on my radar detector, but then I don't have the adjustable windshield on my vision either. works good, at first I had a piece of velcro on the dash and used that at the rear of the unit along with the suction cups at the front. Over time the elements have rendered the glue on the velcro useless so now it's just the suction cups, but I have made several long rides like that with no problems. I bought a 1/8th" phone jack from radio shack and wired it into the vision at the gps audio connector so when i plug into the headphone jack on the radar detector it cuts the radio and plays the warnings through the sound system.

Where is the GPS audio connector located on our bikes?

I have the Valentine also. I did purchase the 12 volt direct cord and had it run it to the dash board dead center. I just put several pieces of velcro on the dash and the bottom of the Valentine. It worked great and also survived without any damage or falling off at a 70mph accident on the freeway. I was astonished that the detector did not come off with only two pieces of velcro holding it on. This position is very good, I can see it very well dead center on the dash. I mounted in toward myself and the windshield has full up/down with out touching the detector. Also, this makes it very easy to remove when I stop and park the bike.

Do you happen to have a pic of this setup?  I thought about trying velcro but haven't for several reasons--can I get the velcro off the dash if I don't like it/it doesnt work right, do I mount the rear of the Valentine flush w/the rear edge of the dash?  If so, eyeballing it looks like I've need some pretty thick velcro toward the front to keep the unit from pointing downward.

Thanks for the help.

No pictures, bike is in Florida I unfortunately am not. I mounted the detector so the front of detector is flush with the front of the dash and had to put 2-3 pieces on the bottom of the detector each cut a little shorter than the other. This allowed for the curve of the dash and the detector sits level facing me. Hope that helps.

Also, to answer your other question, the velcro will come off. I usually just use a hair dryer or put a few drops of lighter fluid on the piece if I want to remove it. Don't use the lighter fluid if you want to just reposition, use the hair dryer.
