Saturday started out with a run to the store and a stop at the ATM. Then it was on to Granite Tire shop to meet with 5 others to ride to Goldhill to check out the 3rd annual Vintage Bike & Car Show. There were a lot of bikes. Mostly H-D, Indians and BMW. There was also a DKW, an old German bike. Overall the show was a good one even if it was a little hot weather wise. From there we decided to go to Cripple Creek for a cold one or two. You know how it is when you leave, you cut loose on the throttle to let everyone know your leaving. Well, when I hit third gear, the tach pegged and I felt like I was it neutral. Looked in the mirror and there it was, my drive belt laying in the middle of the road. It only had a little over 31,000 miles on it, But that's not bad to be a 10 year old belt. I knew I should have taken the Vision when that happened, but going to a vintage bike show I felt like I needed to take my oldest bike. So I hope that I can get as many years on the Vision that I got out of the 1999 C as far as the belt goes. ET

Enjoyed the read Ed and sounds like you'll have a reminder of the goodtime as the day you broke a belt. I just changed my belt out on the Vision at 45K and it looks very solid and after reading that your's lasted for 10 years and broke at 31K says alot. It sounds to me that it dryrotted from the lack of use and not from stress of use. That leads me to believe that I could go about 3 years or roughly 90K on the belt, just my guestimation.

I'd like to look up an old bike show around here as I'd like to see some old Indians.

varyder, you are correct on age being corrupt. I do use belt dressing on the belts and that does help. But there were still some age cracks in it. Being a numbered bike, I don't want too many miles on it, but I still ride it several times a year. Here are a few pics that I took at the show. http://imageevent.com/etspastimes/goldhillbikeshow?n=0 Enjoy, ET

PS: This was mostly a ride it, then show it type show.

I'm in Salisbury, NC. I have over 70,000 on the SC and still on the original belt. ET
