Posts: 446 East TN | Ok guys and gals, my first post and it's a doozie....I am "considering" trading my '06 Harley RoadGlide for either a 2009 or 2010 Vision.
My questions are:
1. What add on should I plan for if I buy one? (fueler, exhaust, ipod cables, etc.)
2. What is in volved with the Stage 1 kit?
3. What is involved with the Stage 2 kit?
4. Is customer service as bad (East Tennessee) as everyone on the Harley boards says it is?
5. What kind of deal can I cut with Polaris? Free service, any add ons, what bargaining tools are out there? (besides the pi$$ poor economy....
6. What should I look for in the way of price for a "comfortable" Vision?
7. Should I buy all Victory branded stuff or is there better aftermarket components? (GPS, intercoms, 1/2 covers, etc.)
Any other information would be helpful as well...I am looking to trade this winter when the salesmen are REALLY starving!!!
Thanks for helping a noobie to Victory's figure out which way to go!!

Also trunk rack for carrying odd shaped items. 2. What is in volved with the Stage 1 kit? More money - much better sound and some performance gains. 3. What is involved with the Stage 2 kit? More noise - but gatlins don't fit 4. Is customer service as bad (East Tennessee) as everyone on the Harley boards says it is? Great service where i am - no complaints at all

Posts: 388 Salisbury, NC | Joe Schmoe, If you do buy the Vision, go to the link for Lloydz and check out several goodies you may want to add to the Christmas list. The stage 1 level 2 slip-ons work well with the fuel controler, Lloydz Vision Intake Plate Kit and Lloydz Performance Cams. As far as price and service, I can't help you much. ET

Just curious as to why you are getting rid of the RoadGlide.
I am starting to notice little things that might turn out to be BIG things in the future...I am out of warranty so everything will have to be paid for out of the back pocket...The CD player is starting to reset everytime I start the bike up, I have 39K miles on it and I just had to add a quart of oil to it...I have oil and filter changed every 5K (Syn Mobil 1) never had to add oil to it before...Also noticing lack of power...Rode with a buddy who has an '09 Vision..He LEFT ME SITTING...mine is a 88 CI stock...
Thanks to all who replied...an I will still be an Ole' Joe Schmoe even if I do buy a Vision just a 21st Century Joe Schmoe...
Another question I thought of, I have a full set of Gerbings heated clothes (Yes I ride in sub freezing weather coldest to date 12 degrees F on the interstate for the work commute 75 MPH= wind chill of -64 F if I remember right ) Will te Vision handle the current draw of the Gerbings heated Jacket liner, over pants, heated gloves and socks??? I wore the stator out on the RG in less than 3 years riding with this gear and my moto lights....

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | Ordinary Joe - you will have NO problem with the Vision and power draw. The only thing I do is use a battery maintainer plugged in (to my electric vest outlet) when it sits between rides.

1. I own Gerbing heated clothing, and of course the Vision will handle it.... what kind of wimpy style machine do you think the Vision is?
2. Customer Service has been discussed on here a lot. I can tell you from personal experience that i love 2 blocks from the local HD dealership of which REFUSED to inspect my motorcycle since it wasnt a "HD". So to that I say, HD has some piss poor customer service as well. Lets face it, you will meet just as many crappy dealerships as you would great ones. I suspect you are smart enough to recognize that "all of the guys that you speak of who slam the Victory service 1. dont own a Victory themselves 2. have embelished information that was at best partially true, or here say. 3. Live to bash anything non HD related.
A smart man would look at the service, the personel, and the machine as a total unit before making a purchase. My dealership is outstanding and goes above and beyond normal and expected. Are they all like that, perhaps not. But I can assure you that
there are just as many crappy Yamaha, Honda, HD, Suzuki, etc etc dealerships all across the country. Dont let someone elses
misinformation cost you the total enjoyment of owning the most technoloigically advanced, smoothest riding, most powerful, unique piece of machinery out on the road. Think outside the box buddy, trust all of us YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID !!! and a pre-welcome aboard.

Posts: 495 Carrollton, TX | Joe I have the Gerbing jacket, pants and gloves and I used them a lot this past winter and they worked great and current draw was never a problem. My friend Fergy has a Vision also and both he and his wife have the same Gerbing setup and they have no problem with all their stuff plugged in as well as a Escort SRX radar/laser defense system and charging two cell phones and an iPod. You will love the Vision. I have put over 34,000 miles on my Vision in 14 months and every mile just gets better. I started riding bikes at 9 and I am now 53 and the Vision is totally awesome.

| Joe, depend a lot on what you use your bike for? I had a 99 RG which I traded for an 07 RG which I traded for my 08 Vision. I guess we should look at your list but I'll do so from "MY" riding habits. I do a lot of day trips and a lot of 3k trips here and there over summer. I ride as soon as the snow melts to when it first flies so 12 degrees ride days are not uncommon. I also ride a lot at night.
1. I'd add the Ipod cable, rubber toe protectors, Utopia backrest and a hitch if you plan to travel extensively. Buy the tour and get the blank panel for trunk removal. Add the tall windshield if you are 6' or taller.
2 and 3 I have no idea and haven't had a need for them. I'm bone stock and still way faster than my 07 RG was. Not real keen on noise either.
4. Dealers are either good or bad but I've never had any issue getting my bike fixed even if it does take 2 trips most times (once to find out whats wrong and the second when the part comes in). I need to add most warranty work is petty stuff that won't leave you stranded. The motor doesn't break.
5. Sales being slow is your best bargaining chip, but for the most part the 5 yr warranty and first service are usually pretty easy to negotiate. Beyond that it is dealer by dealer.
6. $18500-19k out the door should get you a Tour Premium
7. I run a TomTom Rider for GPS, aftermarket Cup holder but otherwise its all Victory right down to the half cover. I have to admit I don't add a lot of extras.
My ONLY advice would be to really talk to folks who have had experience with your particular dealership. If their experience isn't good I wouldn't buy. NOW bear in mind it is a GREAT bike, super comfortable, great handling, good protection from the elements even in extreme cold temps (heated seat and grips do wonders), BUT if the service is terrible you might be further not going through with the purchase. Only you can decide if this is a big negative or minor. If you have several dealers in your area it might not be an issue at all.
I have a little over a year owning my Vision and a little over 18k. Its been parked for a week for a damn tire the dealer can't seem to get in. This is a dealer issue not the bike, but it is this sort of thing that has me thinking the next one won't be a Victory. Who knows maybe as the economy improves so will the dealer service.
For the record I don't have much good to say about Harley dealerships either so my HD's never saw a HD shop. The bike itself made buying another an easy decision. The Vision will make the decision that much harder, great bike.

Wouild I be looking over the windshield most of the time or through it?
Also, any creature features for the wife on the back???

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | with the adjustable windshield I put the taller one on in the winter so my wife unit will be more apt to ride on a chilly verses a cold day. Plus it helps me as well to stay in the saddle longer since I don't have heated clothing. I keep the windshield down for me and I can see over it quit well and the wife will tell me to roll the window up when she rides and gives a great envelop to ride in.
I use the stock shield in the summer to allow in the up position just a little more air to go around the wife to keep her cooler. For me, again, the windshield is down, and I consider this to be one of the best options of the Vision.

Joe, depend a lot on what you use your bike for?
I use my RG now for travelling to work when it's not raining or snowing, riding all weekend long locally and occassionally, when the back pocket can afford it weekend trips....
In the 3 yrs I've had my RG I have accumulated 39K on it so I ride quite a bit...I hope to have over 42K on it by the end of summer, shouldn't be hard as I usually get in 4 to 500 miles a weekend....

| Joe i am 6'3" and 270, i ride with a blade windshield and have no issue's with wind(i like the sporty look) i will also add that i am 34 and seem to be much younger than most on this site. Th bike is simply AWESOME, all my HD buddies are amazed over and over again everytime we ride as far as creature features and pure power. DO NOT buy VICTORY pipes, do yourself a favor and buy the ARLEN NESS BIG HONKERS if you want sound and power. I bought the Vic level 2 and was extremly disapointed with the sound. LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES. One other thing that has been mentioned..........The dealer or dealers near you, research them. I will say this is my 2nd Vic and the issue's with there product are very minute. You will not be disapointed with the bike itself, it really is the shit. But i will warn you, you will feel like a celebirty when you ride and be prepared to answer lots of questions. | |

| Well..............as far as aftermarket there isn't a whole lot out there. the bike is already loaded. the ipod feature is awesome if you own an IPOD brand. making your own playlist for different riding moods is pretty cool. The Big Honkers are not extremly loud they give it a nice rumble, not nearly as loud as my Ness pipes on my Kingpin. | |

| Joe, one more item - consider getting the Reverse Drive option. Fully dressed, the Vision Tour is VERY heavy. Try backing up or pushing that big rig with leg power alone and you'll come to appreciate the difference, particularly on loose gravel. The Reverse option is a "must have" IMHO.

Posts: 460 Centennial, CO | Joe,
Fact is, this is by far the best bike I have ever owned. I rode many different bikes over the years including renting a street glide and a UC for a week at a time to see if I really wanted one. Sadly, one ride on the Vision and I was hooked!
The advantages...
1. Great looking bike
2. Handles better than any other touring bike out there...BAR NONE! You will scare the crap out your friends rockets because you can do the twisties just about as fast as them.
3. The tour premium comes already done. No add-ons needed unless you WANT them:
Heated grips, heated seats, chrome, trunk, powered windshield, HID light...etc.
The disadvantages:
1. Not enough time or room to ride (FOR ME). I ride more miles now than ever and I am at 9000 miles at 6 months of riding.
2. Having to answer a ton of questions no matter where you stop. Ok, this isn't a disadvantage until your group takes off leaving you behind to answer questions. Ha!
3. People hitting the brakes to slow down and wave, give you a thumbs up or just stare and smile. I really haven't gone anywhere that I don't get at least one look and one question per day on the bike. SO, if you don't like talking...DON'T BUY IT!
I did find out this weekend that I have one disadvantage compared to my buddy's UC. His stereo has the feature that will tell you the radio station and songs that are being played. The stereo display on the Vision is a bit weak. However, for that small drawback, the cool part is hooking up my iPhone and creating my OWN playlists and being able to control it from my stereo controls and not having to play with the phone itself while rolling down the road.
As for dealers...they are all just that...a DEALER! You will find good AND bad. I have heard nothing but bad things about Grand Prix here in Denver where I purchased mine. Truth be told, I have had little issue with them. I have brought in the flag ship bike and they are more than willing to go an extra mile to ensure I am happy. They know who buttered their bread and make sure I feel like they know it!
I will tell you this one too. Roll up to a poker run and have a ton of Harley guys walk up and tell you they have seen them in the mags. They really do drool about the time you start to talk about the bike. They are sold when you drop the bike onto the TOP (tip over protection). I did this at my last poker run and all I kept hearing from everyone as the bike was going over (from those that didn't hear me say, 'watch this...you'll freak'), "OH SHIT...he just dropped that gorgeous bike...he is going to need some help picking it up and a lot of money to fix that!" The best part is watching my puny 5'8" frame pick up a 900 pound bike without breaking a sweat!
I am NOT a huge sound guy from the pipes. I actually hate riding with my buddy and ask him to hang in the back because his bike gives me headaches. I absolutely LOVE the purr it makes when cruising at 75. Its quiet enough to enjoy the ride and loud enough to sound beautiful while riding!
I picked up my bike off the show room floor for about 19k with 4 miles on it. Didn't even think twice about it! And DO NOT LOOK AT THE COMFORT! Go with a Premium! You will NOT regret it!
The first 1k miles you will feel like the engine is going to explode and fall apart because of all the rattling and noise. But give it the first 1k and you will find it quiets down and becomes MUCH MORE reliable than ANY S&S engine out there. How do I know? My buddy...again! He has had so many issues with his 103 stage III that I can't count.
The last para brings me to my last point. My buddy on his UC is comfy, yes! However, he had to put on an extra seat, grips, tons of chrome, pipes, power commander (or whatever fuel controller he got...can't exactly remember) and so on. He has NO movable windshield and is stuck with a lot of mounting hardware hanging off of the back of his bike when he removes his trunk. While his bike looks nice...its not nearly as nice as mine. I remove my trunk and have a completely new look and a cover in place to make all the ugly mounting wares go away! Now...for the KICKER ... he paid close to 37k for his while I have a total of 26k in mine and my bike is COMPLETELY AWESOME the way it is. I did add quite a bit of hardware to make this the bike I want. For example, CB, GPS, heal toe shifter, Stage 2 pipes...etc. But off the floor...it was great...so unless you want to spend money, you don't have too and you will find you are in the bike for almost 50% of a UC fully loaded WITH a 103 kit. Yes, I said, 103 kit. The Vision is already at a 106 and the 103 STILL can't keep up! So, why pay for all the extra ponies when you can pick up a Vision for less with more?
Do I want to get more power? Hell, I am a guy and a gear head so YES! Does the Vision need it? Hell NO! Will I get Lloyd's cams...etc.? HELL YES! But only because I love the extra power...NOT because it needs it. Roll on the throttle in 6th gear and never drop a gear and you will motor on around any cages in the road like they weren't there.
Now, by far the absolute best part of the bike...I OWN ONE!
Now, stop thinking and just get out and find a reputable dealer, score a deal and ride your happy arse home! Heh heh! When you do, you WILL be SO happy you did! And when you do, WELCOME to the family!

Posts: 432 Gettysburg, 2008 Tour Premium | Joe, I traded an '07 Ultra for my 08 Vision around 5 weeks ago. Great deal on a leftover. Before you break the banks adding stuff to the Vision one thing you have to know is completely stock the Vision has better highway roll on performance than you would believe. The key is getting past the 2,500 mile point to find that out. I know I may be getting old but quiet is kinda nice. I put on the Victory GPS mount and bought a Garmin 2720 for $107.00 delivered. Does what I want. Added the trunk rack and rear floorboard risers for the women. Performance upgrades are completely optional but if I get bored......well who knows.
