This is a great ride. Do it often. It is quite an undertaking for 2 days though. You have to remember that in the mountains miles per hour are screwy....i go from Tucson to Moab alot and back in a weekend...but when you get there its time for dinner and wake up for breakfast and head back. Moab is 570 miles from me. I always cut across at La Salle Jct. then into Colorado, down thru Ouray, Silverton and into Durango. Heck durango to Tucson is a good days ride. Once you get north of Flagstaff it is hot hot until, well the rest of the way north. Tuba city, Kayenta, Monument Valley all are desert. I remember Blanding to be a nice place once your really in the Townn. Let me know if i can answere more specific questions and i will try. I tried to post pics from my last ride there but dont feel like screwing around with another program to resize them.

I have to agree with Ultra! This is a LOT of riding for two days. You will only be on the road and NEVER stopping! I LOVE riding long trips. But I ALSO love to stop and visit towns and take pics...etc. I (we) and a buddy along with my girl all road from Denver to Moab. It is 360 miles straight through to Moab if you take the major highways (i-70...etc.) and it takes about 6~7 hours. If you are adding 200 more miles per day, you are looking at 9~12 hours per day of straight riding! This is TOUGH! I rode back from Vegas in 15 hours (800 plus miles) and was tore up from the floor up and didn't want to look at my bike the next morning. Although because it was my Vision...I COULD have ridden the next day.

I wouldn't push so hard and adjust the trip to either more days or shorter miles.

So, I have to ask...why not make this a 3 or 4 day turn around and enjoy your ride? OR adjust your trip to something less than 800 miles RT (round trip)...smell the roses and take some pics?

Sorry...don't want to tell you how to ride! This is a toughie for where you are and what you want to do in TWO days. IF you can leave Friday night and head out for a chunk of riding (I HATE riding at dusk or NIGHT with deer around) out of the way, you will be able to take a bit of time throughout the rest of the trip.

I do agree the wife unit wants to stop for a day in Durango and ride the train so We will be adjusting the route map a little. also leaving about 4:30 am from phx on Thursday and arriving home on Sunday. With this I should be able to make Durango in one long day having 1 full day in Durango and then spend Sat. and Sun riding home

Rob - I have made the Durango -PHX trip many times in my car and a few on the Vision. If you are leaving at 4:30 AM the trip to Durango should not be that tough. My only suggestion, IF YOU HAD TIME, would be to go to Pagosa Springs and then over Wolf Creek Pass to South Fork and then back to Durango. That stretch is really worth the ride. Gentle twisting highway to Pagosa and you would love going over Wolf Creek Pass.

You really don't get into the beautiful Rocky Mountains until you get to Durango. When you have a week their are some great rides into the heart of the Rockies I can recommend.

Ride Safe and have a great time. Maybe we can hook up since we are both in the Valley. I am in north Scottsdale just outside of Carefree.

wolfcreek is good to go. (I live in alamosa, co.) Another great trip is go from Pagosa south to Chama NM, then head over Cumbres to Antonito. From Antonito go 28 miles north to Alamosa, then head west to South Fork and back over Wolf Creek. Well worth the extra day!
