| Some months back there was a discourse surrounding the use of amsoil in the Vision and a question of slipping. It may have been KevinX that I was going back in forth in discussion with.
Well out of pure laziness, when I changed my oil yesterday I used Mobil1 as it was more convenient. (Now for the humbling part)...
I BELIEVE the clutch feels more positively engaged with the Mobil1, which would appear to indicate some margin of slippage with the Amsoil. Now mind you this is "seat of the pants" observations, BUT I do believe the clutch is more positively engaged (stronger pull) with the new oil.
Please don't take this as a oil debate post, it isn't. I've been using the amsoil and liked it for some 17k miles (didn't use it the first few thousand), but I did want to set the record straight. So if you "think" your bike might be slipping some, try a different brand and see if it feels more engaged. I believe this is what Kevin was saying in that previous discussion. So my apology to you Kevin, it appears the oil can cause the clutch to not be fully engaged. A friend told me his TC won't handle amsoil at all without severe slipping.
Now my only question is why? I may try a billet clutch cover to see if flex might be the culprit which acting with the oil allows this slip. Guess I need to look at the clutch breakdown for ideas.

Rotella T 15W-40 (non-synthetic, white jug) $2.75/quart at Wal Mart. Or Rotella T 5W-40 (synthetic, blue jug) $4.50/quart at Wal Mart.
Super Tech oil filter ST7317 $2.86 at Wal Mart.
This is all you need for your Victory motorcycle. It is oil, not rocket science people!!!! Seriously!!!!

| And how many of those synthetic oils are dino based not counting Amsoil which is a FULL synthetic not what a federal judge decided the term meant? All 3 of my Victory bikes get/got Amsoil and 100,000 in 10 years no problems. No seat of pants just fact. Sure I pay $10 a quart for Amsoil but it's worth it to me. It works great and I am not foreign oil dependent.
Have any of you done long term oil analysis like Roadkill did with Amsoil in his '99? Yeah, I bet it cost money to do that....

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | when will this madness end? I've switched up a few time between AMSOIL and VICOIL and personally I want to stick, or slick to the synthetic. I've not noticed any slippage change in the clutch between oil changes, but I do know this, I have Vicoil in there now and it is at 2,550 miles since last oil change and it is chattering like crazy, and cluncking in the transmission. I wanted to think it is my imagination but I think it is fact. When I run the AMSOIL it runs quieter upwards to about 3,000 and even when chatter starts it is not this bad. The bike shifts better all the way through and I cannot attest to whether it runs cooler.
I've got enough for one more Vicoil change and I think I'm done with that. I'm even going to use the supertech oil filter and my give the rotella one shot to see if it performs like AMSOIL. I change my oil on the average monthly and not that expense is a big deal, but why pay a big price for a big name when the other does the same job.
Okay, I've turned this into another oil thread debate, sorry, but this is one topic that will never die. It would, if all the hundreds of people who use other than Vicoil in their bikes would fry their motor, but when you are racking up 100,000 with no problems, or for me 50,000k (almost) and no problem, show me the pudding.
BTW is Rotella French?
(Oh, and JAM, can you install grammer and spell check on this here forum? I want what I'm saying to be heard and not whether I have good grammar skills, who has time for that stuff anyways?)
