Posts: 72 Newberry, Mi. | Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere.
I won't have my Vision till next summer but I wanted to know what kind of RPM's you guys are getting at 75 to 80 MPH.
My V92C runs 3200-3400 RPM at those speeds on the highway and I'd prefer to seee lower RPM's at those speeds.
With stock gearing the V92C works well at highway speeds but just feels more suited to off highway speeds.

Posts: 1290 Ruskin, Fl | I rode to work today and was planning on asking a similar question. 80 MPH in sixth gear is right at 3000 for me. I showed about 38-40 mile per gallon instant economy, and 38.9 average when I got to work. This means my actual mileage is only around 37. I have heard some people state much higher mileage than I have EVER gotton no matter how nice I ride. Bike runs great. Kinda bugs me. Any thoughts?

Posts: 374 Tucson, AZ | Lotta factors, altitude, temperature, gas octane, gas station......there were spots in Utah that at fill up i figured i was getting 54 mpg. That was gallons and total miles, while the instant on the dash read 47, then the same is true the opposite way, the instant reads 53 and in reality im getting 41.....? But same gas station, same route, avg temp my milage is real close to all the other times......so now i just ride, dont look at the mpg, when the needle says i,ve got a quarter tank its time to refuel.

| Interesting. Seems whenever someone puts on the Stage kits for performance, the mileage goes to hell. I understand the wanting to be able to richen the mixture for acceleration, but I thought the idea was to use the fuel more efficiently too. At least it worked that way in any of the cars I modified. |

I dont think i have ever heard of anyone running 80 and getting anything above 42. I have the S1 L2 set up and when i did the Redwing ride, in sections of the trip i was pushing 85 and 90 with crusie going up and down the hills with almost no head wind to speak of and 85 degree temps. I had a point a minute ago but realized i dont care what kind of gas mileage i get, i am on a Vision. I check my mileage now and then to get a feel for whether i need to clean an air filter or check plugs. It is a 106 V-Twin. if i drive respectfully, i have averaged 52 and 53 miles a gallon over the course of a 10 hour non stop trip. Have fun and ride safe. |

Posts: 297 VA | Personally, does gas mileage matter that much? Not to me. However, when gas was $4.00 a gallon, it mattered! If the wife and I were going somewhere that we didn't need to use a cager, then we went on the bike. Now, the reality was that I just really wanted to ride the bike. And, my wife didn't have any really good arguement against taking the bike other than I'm wearing a skirt. So, I got to ride the bike, which I never feel like i get enough seat time, and she gets to go wherever she needed to go.
However, I do think there is some validity to the gas mileage issue. Let's face it, the push is to buy more fuel efficient vehicles because we all know that gas will eventually go back to $4+ a gallon. When that happens, it's nice to know that we Vision riders have a more fuel efficient means of transportation. Here in Northern Va, we have a HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lane which requires 3 or more to use. It cuts a 1-1/2 hr. drive to 45 minutes if you can use it. Motorcycles are allowed on there. Huge benefit here.
But, the real reason I care about gas mielage is because everyone who has the S1 kit seems to get better MPG. So, when I tell the wife that I want to drop $1,500 on new exhaust, I can say, "But I'll get 10 more MPG, don't you want me to help America limit out dependency on foreign oil?" What wife can argue with that logic? |

cw that is my modus operandi, as I don't care about the mpg, that's a perk, but a mpg drop means something is amiss, I check mine constantly.
If we live in the same area, and use the same fuel and have about the same riding habits, yet your bike gets way better gas mileage, I think I've got something wrong mine that needs to be fixed. Chances are, that is probably so. |

Just be prepared to answer how long it will take you to recoup the 1500 dollar at 3.00 per gallon. |

Me too. I still don't understand that my wifes vision gets 6-8 miles better mpg than my all the time even if I ride hers.Mine has ness pipes intake & fuel control so I could understand 2-3 but not 6-8.Hers did better even when mine was bone stock.I did have Lloyd dyno it at the AVR and it made 85.95 hp and 109.52 tq |

Posts: 404 San Antonio, TX United States | I keep hearing where people expect better fuel economy from moving up to a stage1 kit. Fuel economy has never been part of upgrading engine performance when you are talking HP. We are not talking about engine efficiency which is totally different. HP has always meant more money, less fuel economy. You can strangle the engine and make it perform just as well with minimum fuel as long as you have a way to get the heat away from the piston/cylinder while it is running so lean. The more open exhaust with a stage 1 kit means less back pressure so in many instances you need to increase the fuel to compensate for a possible lean running condition which can have catastrophic effects. Now that i have lit the fuse, let the discussions begins. jeez i hate this part. lol |
