Hey All,

I just got back from Sturgis, 3000+ miles. I had a great time.........However, my bike started to make this chirping/werbaling (technical term) type noise. I can hear in mostly on the right side or belt side on my bike. It does not do it all the time. Only when the clutch is out and there is power to the rear tire, but not in all gears, or its less noise in some gears and I just can't hear it.

Is it the belt, drive train or does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Kris

Mine had the same noise my belt was loose and when I tightened it noted that alignment was important so get a floor jack and follow the procedures. It can be done by you if you have resonable mech talent. Archie

Also, there is a new spec on how tight the belt should be. You will have to talk to a mechanic to see what the adjustment should be.

I hope it's standard 10Lbs or I just wasted money on a belt tensioning tool.

Its almost always the belt riding too close to the outer edge of the pulley. save some time and dont touch the left adjuster. Tghten the right 1/4 turn at a time till the noie goes away. If it takes too many turns, and te belt it too tight, use the manual proceedure. Dont use the notches on the swingarm.

It is the damned pulley coating. I can loosen mine up or tighten it up now with no noise due to tension. The belt will eventually wear the coating but until you get those miles racked up you'll be adjusting regularly. I imagine if it got real bothersome you could have someone remove the coating from the pulley teeth, but it is easier to just adjust and wait it out.

I had my pullly replaced under warranty. After a whoopload of adjustment it was found some of the pullys where not right. Something about the teeth if you will or the valleys not matching the belt. Anyhow no more noise...

Just to let you know what I've experience with the belt noise. My 08 had the belt noise from about 7500 miles until the 30K check up. During that period of time, I did everything suggested to make it stop making noise, some helped stop the noise for a short time, but it always came back. Old settings, new settings, tight, looser, washed it, even had the service department check the trueness of the pulley, it was fine, but still no cure for the noise. At the 30K service the belt belt was replace with a new belt. I have been waiting for it to make the noise, but knock on wood, after 41,000 miles on the bike still no noise. What a difference, the noise from the belt is annoying.
