Posts: 460 Centennial, CO | Ok...this is weird to me.
I loaded two song lists and headed to Sturgis. It was a last minute trip so I didn't take time to figure out exactly what I wanted to listen to until I got up there. When I got there I yanked out the laptop and started creating 5 play lists. One is country and I loaded it with over 500 songs. Total was almost 1700 songs that went into the phone.
Now, when I tried to connect the phone it would not look at my play lists and actually acted like my old MP3 player that had NO functionality through the buttons. So, I unplugged the phone and plugged it back in. No good. Shut off the stereo and powered back on = no good. I killed the power to the bike and started it again...no good still. Hmm...restart the phone? Nope...still no good. After powering down phone and going through everything above AGAIN...still nothing.
So, I found a play list and started it while the phone was undocked from the bike. I headed out but found that I could not change anything as mentioned above. Shutting down the bike caused me to have to pull the phone out, start it again and plug it back in. So, my stops were quick while I left the bike running. NOT recommended unless you have your buddy sitting on his bike next to yours keeping the riff raff away (this is what I did).
I have not had a chance to remove all the songs and start from scratch. Before I do a lot of investigation to find out if there are limitations to the number of songs the stereo can handle, do any of you have any similar problems or do you know if there are limitations?
This isn't the first time I have run into this...but it IS the first time I could not get the phone to work properly. OH...and it worked fine on the way up with my two albums playing over and over again during my 8 hours. Yeah...THAT sucked!
Oh yeah...one more thing. While I was touring around, I forgot that it wasn't working and hit my playlist button after going through the source change from FM to AUX and it worked for a while but if I did anything such as change the source again...it was done and never worked again after that. Hmm...bad cable maybe?
Damn the questions...I hate being a techy guy because this kind of crap bugs the living shit out of me.

Posts: 297 VA | Elroy, I had a somewhat similar problem with my iPod nano. It would act squirrely every now and then and not even go to the next song, let alone a playlist. Now, these of course are two different iPod since yours in the iPhone. However, I get the feeling this may be the same problem. While going to Myrtle Beach, it completely locked up after acting up a few times over the last few months. I replaced the cable, and it worked perfect after that. It also seemed to switch much faster between playlists and even songs with the new cable. Before you knock yourself out too much trying to pin it down, I would go by a Victory dealer and ask if they have a spare cable, or if you can try a new one before buying it. I have a feeling that if it worked before, that is all it is. Be curious to know, so if it works, or doesn't, post back. |

Just to level set. Have you ever been able to control any iPod from your Vision?
I know it sounds strange but I just want to make sure we are talking about the right connector. Is the connector on the cable an eighth inch stereo jack or a white cable with an Apple docking port on it?
There is a new iPod cable coming out in a few months that is suppose to charge any iPod or iPhone. It will be $100 dollars from Polaris. kinda steep price. I would wait and get one of those since it should work like a champ.
For that much money it should make me coffee in the morning.

Level setting - I used it for many months with no issues. I have wondered if the cable is going bad. But geez...cables just don't go bad after a few month. Frustrating!
I will be on the look out for the new cable. I will wait since if I have to spend more money...I may as well spend more on something that does it all rather than a fix with an add on to allow charging.
Oh...reminds me...I wondered if that was the problem too so I removed the adapter but it still didn't help. |

Posts: 460 Centennial, CO | Here is the latest...
I removed ALL of the songs on my Iphone yesterday and loaded 4 play lists with about 5 albums. I didn't do any cool naming of the play lists or anything. I just typed "country", "rock", "various". I loaded it and now it is back to working.
So, my consensus is that there MUST be a limitation to the number of songs you can load on a 16Gb IPhone that would cause the stereo to freak out.
What next(?): I am going to find out if I can load up as many songs into the 11 spots as I had the other day. I only had three play lists with 1700 songs. So, I am curious if I loaded 1700 songs but put only say about 150 songs into each list if it will play fine or not.
I can say that it IS NOT the cable. But some limitation in the code.
More to come. |

Posts: 725 Reno County, KS | I have had problems working with more than 1 playlist on my iTouch as well. I have gotten rid of all the custom playlists and the bike interfaces much better. I think were looking at a software glitch with playlists. At least in my limited experience what I have seen is that the bike doesn't wanna interface unless I start the Pod, select the tunes to start playing and then dock with the connector. After that I still have to take it to Aux and back a few times after a shutdown of the bike. All in all it works so I'm better off than without it but it is kind of a pain in the a$$ to deal with when you forget until you're on the highway to cycle the sources a few times back to Aux. Other times she starts right back to playing normally (but never resumes, seems that's outside my I/F capabilities anyway). I'll be looking forward to the new cable coming out to see if this is gonna fix a few of these probs with the interface. |

Posts: 742 North Orange County CA | I wonder if it might have something to do with the i-phone software rather than the radio.
I use a 4GB 3rd generation nano and have full functionality on eleven playlists with the original/un-updated 2008 radio and my original ipod cable.
I do have a habit of wiping the info and doing a factory reset every time I re-sync the Ipod rather than just re-syncing.
I have never even considered plugging in my i-phone because that damn thing is so buggy after an update that it takes me days of screwing with it to get my to get my handsfree in the car working again. Seems to me that any device that needs a software update every-time I think about syncing my information has too many issues to be truly reliable.
Also I would make sure the "shake to shuffle" feature is turned of in the ipod settings panel.

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | there is just too much dynamics going on here. granted it all should work and work well. i've had one issue after another with the ipod thingy, but 90% of the time it works well. you're dealing with two sets of software to make this thing work, a questionable connection to the device and the cable connection to the bike.
i've got the touch and it is the older generation. the expense to upgrade to me is not worth any effort, but i'll be replacing the cable soon, no wait, i'll be cleaning it. why, because the little teenie tiny contacts looked to be corroding for the exposure outside, maybe.
i'm sharing in my frustrations with this, but take time to figure out every aspect of the setup as there is way to much at play here to get perfection. bless all of you that have no problem, i'm very thankful that i can get mine to work most of the time. i don't think there is a more expensive nor more fun ipod player on the market |

Posts: 460 Centennial, CO | The fact is simple. I can have up to 11 play lists and I have no problem if I keep the number of songs fairly low.
I reloaded a ton of songs and had the same issue. I unloaded it again and it worked fine. I reloaded it again and same problem and then back to less songs and fine again. Yes, it was a long set of hours doing this as loading 1700 songs takes about 30 minutes.
I don't EVER have an issue with my phone unless there are a ton of songs on there. SO, I believe the issue is with the stereo and not the Iphone. I am going to begin adding songs until I find the limit. then I will back down until I find the max number of songs I can load.
Again...more to come. Its not an iphone/cable issue. Its a limitation on the stereo by the work I have done so far.
