i've been a steady rider since i went back to riding about 4 years ago next month. I've owned 3 bikes, a gl1200, gl1500, and now the vision. by far the vision is the perfect fit for me.

however, there has been a second passion, actually third to my wife, that has haunted me all my life, that is a jeep. I struck a likin' to the jeeps early in life and will admire a good one as much as i would a bike. i'm talking strictly the utility types and not the enclosed ones. having been in the military it fed that passion being a driver of the old m151's and into the hummers.

well i picked up an '89 wrangler this week and drove it to work with no doors on and had a blast. the scary thing is, though i passed a few bikes i didn't get the old "i wish i was riding" feeling that i get when i ride in any other car.

i believe my cherokee died due to lack of driving, but i don't think i'll have that problem with the wrangler.

The vision is still is and will always be "the ride", but i won't hesitate to take the wrangler on a nice day...

other than you SO, what vies for your affection to the vision??

Damn work habit gets in the way of Vision time! Sometimes a new gadget or firearm gets my attention but only 'til I'm bored with it, then back to the bike. If I could just remember this guys name (Chuck something or another) up close to where you live... I knew someone who heads the offroad Jeep club up there. He's probably the #1 authority in the Mid-Atlantic region on anything Jeep. He puts together a lot of the trail drives. Jeep actually flew him to their HQ and gave him the oppertunity to speak to the Development Team. Not surprisingly, the Rubicon came out the next year... Ahhh this is killing me. Good guy too... If I can remember his name, I'll let you know. Jeep fanboy; you're a HERETIC I say!

VaRyder,

I have had the same problem in a different way. All my life, I've wanted a Jeep. Ever since the old CJ series, and I don't care how "dangerous" they were. Never had the money.

I make a few detours and side trips, do well in engineering school and get my sheepskin. Couple months later, I get my first job. I come home, grab the bride and strife and tell her we are going to buy a Jeep. There is a dealer about 1.5 miles from the house.

We pull up, pick out the best on the lot and attempt to take it for a test drive. I jump behind the wheel and WHAT THE HELL?!?!
About this time, I begin to realize that the Jeep is NOT made for someone 6'4" and 300 lbs. I simply did not fit.

How harsh a way I picked to kill my dream.

I'm still looking at the new 4-door wrangler, but I'm afraid to get behind the wheel.

Trust me at 6'10" and 400 lbs I feel your pain the move to eco cars and the downsizing of the industry have me driving a Dodge RAM Truck because I don't fit in much of any car. I long for the good old days when I drove a 64 Cadillac Convertible and had plenty of room. Oh well hopefully i won't have buy two cars one for each foot. Arch

boats are a lot of fun if you live on the water. my wife doesn't like the water at all. not living on the water to me makes it too much effort for such little use. now riding on the other hand, the ship is docked at the front door and will take me to all the world that i want to see....

I know its called a yacht, but i hate that term because the moment I use it, eventhough its proper people automatically think you're
some rich snob, or stuffy, etc etc. We just refer to it at "the boat". Its not a huge mega ship at only 40 feet we have plenty around us that are larger and smaller, ..... so its "a boat". When we retire, our next boat will have a bridge davit so we can keep both motorcycles on the upper deck and davit them onto the dock when we need vehicles to run errands... A friend of ours keeps
their Smart4Two vehicle onboard doing the same thing.

Varyder, while i understand your point what you are also saying is that you have no desire to see anything off this continent... now thats a sad sad thing. We should all see the rest of the world helps us appreciate what we have, and what we should change.

no, no. I've been around the world and back and looking for forward to many more travels. I don't think I'd do it on a boat though.... just me, it's great for many folk. I'm not afraid of boating, the wife is and I don't want to go anywhere for any great length of time without her just to say, been there done that....

one more note, when I've travel I don't go where the tourist go, I go where the real people are....

the Vision.

If I'm going for a two hour ride, I'll take either of those before rasslin' the Vic out of the garage.
