Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I know my post are out there most of the time and this may be no different than the rest. Since getting my Vision one thing I've not been able to figure out and that is how to catch a powernap. Well, I finally figured it out...this morning around 1:00am.
I went to my daughters yesterday hitting the road at 6:30am from Va and traversing the 190 +/- miles to her place in N.C. I spent the entire day moving her from one place to another. We started around 10:30 am and wasn't finished until 12:30am this morning. I had planned on being back on the road earlier, but after seeing what I was up against I knew midnight was the soonest I could depart and it was almost on the money.
After getting drenched, and yes drenched on the Vision as well as packing and moving everything in one move in a big u-haul, I had quite a day. The drench part happened when I moved my bike from the u-haul place to her house since I didn't want it sitting out on a public road after the place closed. The forcast called for scattered showers but it turned into continious rain from 1pm with only a few breaks.
I had just got on my bike following my daughter to the new place, about 8 miles or so from where we started. As we looked west the sky was dark and threatening with lightening. I donned my VARYDER leathers, the one with the big V on the back. Actually it was just my vest with a Victory badge, but I was committed for the worse, yet hoped she'd have sympathy for me. We trekked along and the sky opened up. Now traveling in pouring rain on a two lane highway, folks slowed to a crawl and I was committed. The rain sheeted and everything, and like my daughter described, "hurricane" rain, and she's been through enough to know. We got to the house and I had to ring out my clothes. She told me she didn't know what to do and as long as I was behind her and not flashing my lights she kept going, but she said she kept asking herself, what should I do?
So after a long day I'm heading home I'm getting the tireds on and definetly needed to stop by the time I got to Goldsboro, just 30 minutes from her new house. I got me some coffee but still felt I needed a wink, but didn't know how. I studied the situation and knew there had to be something I could do to lay back and shut my eyes.
As I sat on my bike I dropped my helmet on the pillion and leaned back. The helmet landed top down and when I leaned back it pushed up in the corner between the seat and back rest with the tour pack. Man, what a relief, it had given me the back support and lift I needed as I put my head against the top of the backrest. I was able to catch a few other winks along the way home and forunetly I ran into no rain.
22 hours and 360 miles later I pulled back into the drive at home.
Please don't hammer the situation by saying I should have stayed the night or got a hotel, etc. And I don't encourage anyone else to do what I did at all. Under the circumstances this is the way I preferred to travel at time, and being able to powernap on the bike is a big plus. I just now need to see if it works with the trunk removed and just the back rest.

| You're suppose to take those power naps laying on the grass beside the bike, not on the bike, lol.... I do it almost every trip when I get the droopy eyes... | |

Posts: 181 Henlow, Bedfordshire, England | Recently did a through the nighter to get to edinburgh for a 7am start (500ish miles). I tend to ride a couple of hours, rest, ride etc. During these stops I perfected a snooze technique which involved sitting on the pillion seat, leaving helmet on and resting my head on one hand. And it worked! mind you I have a reputation for sleeping anywhere, including standing up once - still not sure how that happened and why i never fell over...............

During Navy boot they tell you that leaning on a bulkhead is NOT allowed. During high stress times at sea, apparently it was normal to catch guys leaning and sleeping while standing. Apparently, as you proved, it can be done!
