Posts: 804 Perry Hall, MD | Just completed a 500+ mile run that included the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah Park. I just bought the 08 Premium Tour (MC) about 5 weeks ago and I LOVE IT. All along the way as I was becoming more familiar with it, I was realizing just how great a ride it is. Pretty neat to see another VV in MC on the Drive and then having a group of sport bike riders come by with their heads turned and thumbs raised up.
One problem did develop that I can't find a previous thread on. The cruise control disengaged several times over the 2 day trip with no action on my part. Speeds varied from 35 to 65. The last time it repeated 3 or 4 times in quick succession. I turned the cruise off and then back on and it worked fine for the remaining 200 miles. I'm leaning towards a loose connection, but would welcome a starting point or history lesson if someone else has had the same problem.
Thanks

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Hey leenyb. Sound like a great ride despite the quark. are you in VA? I'm down below richmond.
the only time I've had the cruise disengage is when I was trying to dec using the button and push it in rapid secession and it would disengage, or when I would have a grip on the throttle and turn it to decel unintentionally. Also, if you tap the brakes, front or rear, or disengage the clutch, this will also drop the cruise. I've ran mine down, I believe, below 30mph and had the cruise still engaged. I could see it getting confused at the slower speed and popping out, maybe. But at 65mph it should be steady as she goes.
Now, when it does the mystery disengage, is it just the green light on the dash going off, or is the entire cruise shut down, indicated by the light at the control?
hope it is just a one time quark. |

It actually disengages just as if I had tapped the brakes. Every time it happened my hand was at least resting on the throttle grip, but no brake contact or manual adjust on the throttle or with the Accel/Decel switches just prior to it disengaging. I tried keeping my hand away from the grip, but of course it worked fine then.
It was so intermittent that I can't imagine the dealer finding it unless they are familiar with others having the same problem. The pressure switch sounds like the place to start looking. Did it require a replacement?
I've also noticed that if I pull the clutch there is enough of a delay in the cruise disengaging that the engine will start to rev up. Is this normal?

| lenny you might have also been in too high a gear which can cause it to disengage. See your owners manual page 121 for an example. |

Posts: 173 Prescott Valley, AZ | Had the same trouble shortly after I got the bike, the cruise would work one day then not the next, could not seem to get a decent read on when or what it was doing. Then one early morning on the way to work I noticed the brake light was staying on. Sure enough it was the brake light switch sticking. After the warranty replacement was installed it has work perfectly since now well for over a year.

Yes, it did. Couple things you can try here. First, go to the tech section and you will find a link to the Vision Service Manual if you don't already have one. In there is a section that will describe how you can "tap" into the onboard diagnostics for the cruise control. Follow the instructions and see if any codes pop up that can give you an indication as to what is causing you problems.
Secondly, you could go down behind the right-hand leg fairing and pop the connector off the brake pressure switch. Then you can ride around and see if you have any more trouble with it. Keep in mind, though, that you will not have any brake lights when you use only your foot pedal. |

Not seeing any issues with the brake lights staying on. Will follow your suggestions and see where it leads. |

My first six months with mine, I discovered what Lone Ranger wrote. I believed for a few weeks that it was a defective c/c unit until I realized that it is a safety device. So then I got to the point where I depended on the feature of rolling it up to turn it off. But then after about my first year, even that qiut working. I actually really liked the roll up the throttle grip to turn it off feature, dang nab it, now I gotta hit the brake or pull in clutch to dot it... argggh |
