Well I finally went ahead and bought the new Scala Q2 multi headset communication system for the wife and I. I have done some research on them and so far seem to be the best. They MSRP for $390.00 and above but I got them new for $248.00 plus shipping from Amazon. Cant wait to hook them up and try them out. The system comes pre sync as well. They are bluetooth so they should hook up well with our phones, GPS, Etc. I will give a review as soon as i get chance to try them out.

We have been wanting a good communication system for riding since she rides her own bike. Makes it easier to talk than yelling at each other going down the road

I picked up this multiset in June at a bike rally. I will say that it is a great product, worth the money. The range is good, sound quality- great and it's wireless. I give it a thumbs up !

How would you describe communicating with the back seat rider at highway speeds?

Communicating with the back seat passenger sounds like you are talking on the phone with someone, it is that good.

I've been using mine all summer. I have the AtomBomb modified mufflers, and although they are quite a bit louder than stock, the Scala headsets compensate for the increased noise by varying the volume of the headsets, much like the radio does on the Vision. Pairing is simple, both to other Scala units, phones, GPS, etc. We wear full-face helmets, and with those the noise-cancelling feature of the headsets is very good. I made several phone calls while cruising at 75 on the interstate and the person on the other end had no idea I was even on a bike. They thought I was just making a normal phone call from home. When you take a call, the intercom cuts off so the passenger can't hear your phone conversation. When the call ends, you can go back to intercom mode. The headsets also have FM radio receivers built in (mono, not stereo) and in aux input so you can plug your ipod into it. Battery life on standby is about 4 days. On intercom mode (full-duplex), batteries will last easily about 7 hours. Great units for the price. My Vic dealer carries the individual units for $295 each. I got mine from an ebay seller for around $249 for the Multiset which comes with 2 complete units, shipping included. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

I bought the Q2 for the wife and I and ended up sending it back. The 3 helmets we have gave me grief in mounting.
Arai Classic
Schuberth C1
Nolan N103

The sticky glue mount would have worked with the Schuberth only. Neither the clamping mount or the glue mount would work with the other two because of the helmet outer shape didn't provide a flat even surface. I also noted that had I glued the mount to the Schuberth, I would have had to cut the chin wind curtain to get the mike in proper position.

I was very disapointed, because I had read such good reviews for the Scala Rider Q2. I'm ordering a 2nd Nolan N103 and buying the very expensive Nolan Bluetooth set up, that has no where near the range of the Scala system. This is no big deal as I only need to hear the wife.

Thanks for that insight candubrain. I've been wanting to go for something else since the Vision system gets too wore out and not the best system out there. We went back to yelling at each other going down the road or for the most part she sleeps. We are both using shortys and I don't think there is a system out there that will work.

I had the Vision headset going with my EXO-100 and a 3/4. But this summer it has strictly been the shortys for the both of us. You highlight that the fact for me that I should settle on a helmet and then find what does work. I'll be going back to the EXO-100 this morning to see if I still like it.

Have you seen the new Nolan N43, it's communication ready as well.

http://www.nolanhelmets.com/n43trilogyncom.htm

It's also advertised as a six position helmet, here is a video of the Euro version. The North American version is DOT approved but doesn't have the exposed top vents.

I started wearing 3/4 helmets this year, after years of shorties. The 3/4 cuts the wind noise better, so I'm no longer needing to wear the ear plugs. I like this new Nolan, as the shield is removable and comes with a visor as well, good for the rainy days.

I ride with a Bell and like the fact my shield folds up under the visor for protection. Also love the reduction of wind noise. Looks like Nolan has a nice lid hitting the market.

candubrain thanks on that information about the nolans. i've got to get a mindset change first as i really like the shorty and so does the wife. i started with a full face years ago when I had my honda 750 and went to a 3/4 when I put the fairing on.

after I got the vision i went with a shorty and i like the ability to hear more despite the wind. with the exo i was able to set it up with the headset and that makes it nice and I'm going to see if i can get a pink one for the wife, since that's what she likes. in the winter IF she rides, she'd probably do the 3/4 just to keep warmer and I have one setup with the headset. But if not I'll go back to the exo anyways to hear the truck chatter. though I don't use the faceshield as i did since i've got goggles now. just my preference, at least for the moment.

Just to clear things up since it has been pointed out that I don't know what people read when I write. I went with the EXO-100 so I could use a headset on the shorty and the wife used a 3/4 with a headset. when summer time came the wife wanted a shorty also since it is more open and not apt to get too hot when sitting at lights. the shorty you cannot setup for the headset so I went to a regalur shorty as well, thus no headset for either during the summer. Winter time it is back to the exo for me and if the wife rides she'll use the 3/4 thus we'll both have the headset. I didn't buy an exo yet for the wife since I wasn't sure if she would like the shorty, and the exo is a few more bills than a regular shorty.

I was going to use the IMC line when I wore 1/2 helmets. This is a behind the head set up, similar to MP3 player headsets. Their a German company, I don't know of anyone that has used it, but it's the only one I'm aware of.

I have one of these and they work just fine...although I LOVE my EXO-100 after I modified the internal padding to accept my tall ears. I just cut out a 1/4 inch of the padding in a half moon (shape of the top of my ear) and now I wear that helmet ALL of the time unless its cold and then I ride with my HJC full-face...

Do you get the stereo through these? I have the CB unit on my bike and want to be able to add the bluetooth as well. But if it does not plug into my motorcycle, I can't see that it will work with my CB. Any ideas?

The wife and I have the Scala Q2 system installed on our HJC SY-MAX II helmets and they work great! Being able to communicate with her (up to 1/2-mile separation) provides a level of safety (i.e., identifying hazards) and a level of convenience (e.g., needing gas, food, points of interest).
