not that I really care, I've might have been through there once, and I have no desire to "Bike Week" at Myrtle Beach, but they are having their say.
Maybe in this bleak economy "other people" besides bikers will flock to the coastal city since the dredge of society no longer is making it a destination...

Posts: 725 Reno County, KS | It's sad. I DID wanna do bike week at Myrtle. Guess we have no recourse though. I can see the local's points.
Last year, Myrtle Beach City Council took action with a series of ordinances – including the state's only helmet law – designed to throw cold water on the biker parties. And it worked. This past May the bikers stayed away in droves, leaving some hotels, restaurants, bars ands strip clubs hurting.
There's no 2 ways about it. Large groups of bikers (read NOT motorcyclists) turn ugly. I'm a single (for the next 11 months at least) guy and it's obvious to me that I wouldn't want to deal with a town full of scumbags around my family once a year. I have similar reasons for not wanting to go to Sturgis bike rally. Woo hoo party! Stacked like cord wood with obnoxious bikers! Not for me.

Posts: 965 New York State | I was at Myrtle Beach Bike Week 09 it was great the Hotels bars and resturants all welcomed us with open arms.
Even the Local Police were giving my Old Lady friendly waves as we passed. We boith wear lids and my Vision has stock pipes no tickets no problems.
Will probably do it again in 2010

Posts: 965 New York State | Compass Cove Resort on the Beach. I have friends that live in North MB they came to town showed us the sights. The story I heard more than once is that MB does not want Sport Bikes tearing up the street but can't say no to one group so it is a blanket no Bike Week public statement. All of the places that welcomed HD's in the past still do . As far as the laws No loud pipes and Helmets must be worn.
http://www.compasscove.com/ The first floor of the parking garage was bikes only very friendly staff, clean rooms

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | Isn't this very old news? Discussed heavily here in Jan '09 ? I recall that this was a problem when I lived in Florida '97-'02 - they just wanted wealthy golfers to visit - and NO bikes back then. And yes - that opinion was not shared by all of the 'tourist trade' folks. It seemed that the Myrtle 'elitists' looked down (south) at Daytona - and didn't want any part of that. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | the article is a recent article and it mentions where mcbride who hooted about the bikers awhile back was running for office on the ticket of being in favor of bringing them back to MB. however, he lost, as a loser would. Though it is old news overall, the recent election highlights that the ban has taken hold.
now, with that said, nothing keeps "law bidding" citizens from running the streets of MB |
