First a question, If you have a mirror in your trunk how do you remove the top shell of the trunk? I guess I have to remove the mirror....Okay, how do you do that without breaking the mirror and receiving seven years bad luck?!?!
Regardless, I was able to separate the shell enough to install the wire to the left side as shown in the docs by firehawk.
Here is a link to firehawk's tech article. http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=2417

Find the "correct" wire harness to tap under the seat. On my 2008 there are two harnesses that it could be and it is the one covered by what looks like tape.....not the one that is covered by cloth. Your clue here is the White/Red wire is missing.
I tapped the three wires in the harness (Brake, left turn and right turn) and using wire I had extended the wires to under the trunk. Firehawk does this as well and shows it on page 8 of his doc's.
Rather then grounding the controller under the seat, as seen in the pic on page 8, I used the bolt that holds down my CB. I took my power for the controller from the Green/Pink wire from front of the bike (after the connector that goes to the trunk). The other side Green/Pink wire goes to right trunk light.
So now if I want to remove my trunk, I do the same procedure as before I installed the 4710 except; I must unplug the three wires that are tapped under the seat where they plug into the 4710.
I did this to make the trunk easier and quicker to remove.
