I'm not clear on what bulbs will be HID on the Premuim Package.  Is the main headlight beam HID?  (HID low beam/Halogen high?)  Is the Projector Beam driving light (the little round one) the HID?  Is the little projector beam on a seperate switch or is it tied into the Hi/Low switch on the handlebar?  What kind of bulbs are used on the non-HID bike?  I haven't seen any reports of a night ride on a Vision.  I know the lighting pattern will be awesome, just don't know what's what.

I've sent an email to a DSM to clarify, awaiting his response.

This is straight from DSM Jason DeLockery:
The standard model, and the Comfort model on the Vision Tour have the standard halogen Headlights. The two top lights are for high and low beam, and then the bottom "beam" light is also a halogen that comes on off with the switch on the dash. The premium models come standard with the HID "Beam" Light that comes on and off with the dash switch. Then the two top lights are halogen high and low beam.

Thanks for the clarification.  The reason I even asked was because of the video I posted.  When Mike Chesney turned on the running light it kind of flickered like HID and then looks bluer than the main headlight.  I noticed two switches on the dash, one for the emergency flashers and the other is for the running light.  There are four switches total so I guess the other two would be used for aux lighting, etc.

Thanks again for the timely response.

So, I am going to go with the assumption that the HID light is only a running low beam light.
It appears to have nothing to do with the high beams.

g1nomad - not quite. As I understand it from Jason's description, all models get Halogen low/hi beam headlights. The "projector beam" light, which is the round "third eye" is halogen except on the premium model which is HID. The projector beam light is powered by a separate switch on the console.

Man, I'm so glad you posted this. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to put a headlight modulator on the bike, since mine will have an HID light on it and modulators don't work with them. I luvs my modulator on my current bike!

Herb,

Here's a YouTube video of a guy who rode over 1000 miles in 19 hours on a Vision.  The video is 5 minutes long and he starts out at night.  It is super fast motion and is kind of hard to watch all the way through but watch the first couple of minutes while driving at night.  It looks like he has the HID projector beam on along with his low beams.  The halogen low beam looks absolutely yellow in comparison.  He gets away from city lights about 20 seconds into the video and you can really see how sharp the HID beam is.  Technically it's probably catagorized as a low beam because the pattern is so defined but it would probably burn your retinas if you leaned down and stared into the lens from within the pattern.  There is also one short spot (19 seconds into it, lasts less than 2 seconds) where he is pulled over and you get a really clear shot of the dash lit up in a beautiful blue.  Hope this answers some questions.

p.s. Watching the sunrise was also cool.

This picture has a clear view of the Projector Beam running light switch.  Standard/Comfort - Halogen, Premium - HID.  This is the bulb they would change out if you got the $500 HID option.

I have not seen a picture of all four switches being used but I have seen the far left switch used for the heated grips.  It is a rocker switch high/low.  I haven't heard specifically, but I think the Heated Seat switch is on the front left side of the Tour Trunk.  (Otherwise known as the "Dee" switch.  Am I right, badnvegas?)
