Sturbridge, Mass | Hi, I am the volunteer ride coordinator for Higgins.
Here is the tentative schedule for this years rides, I have tried to keep dates/times consistent.
In years past I have always tried to keep the destination a secret, making it more about the ride than the location. However, I have had several folks asking this year prior to them joining the ride.
As always, the success of these rides depends on YOU !!! These are meant to be safe, fun rides- get out of the hustle and bustle of work and hit the open road to enjoy to fellow Victory riders.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions- Please let me know !

Well it looks like Mother Nature is conspiring against us, it went from a 30% chance of showers to a 70% chance of rain.
Safety is the number one concern in these rides. I do not plan to ride in the rain, getting caught in a shower is something different.
I will make a decision by noon tomorrow as to a go/no go.
Please keep an eye on your email.

Mother Nature has told us it is still to early, I will not take chances on a group ride in the rain.
30% chance is one thing, 35 degrees & an 80% chance is another.
Next Ride is Saturday may 8th. This ride will have small sections of highway riding.
Remember, Higgins Open House is Saturday May 1st !
Please RSVP for the May 8th ride, as normal kickstands up @ 9am from Higgins.

This ride will have some sections of highway travel.

Well, Mother Nature was at it again this past Saturday ! I have decide that when I grow up, I want to be a meteorologist !
The forecast was for the rain to be below us and for scatter thunderstorms. Well it was pouring rain and thunderstorms from 5AM till around 2PM in Central Mass. I was silly enough to ride up to Higgins in the morning, hoping that it may clear. But alas, no luck.
At least the rain gear worked !!!
Next ride is Saturday June 12th. This will have some highway riding. The plan is to head out to Rhinebeck, NY to take part in the Rhinebeck Air show as well as stop by the antique motorcycle show next door.
Please come fueled and ready to leave Higgins by 9AM.

| A big Thank You to Rita and Zack.
Pete hit showers on the way to meet me then we hit steady rain going up Rt 9. It cleared up later and they had the demo rides. Once the sun came out it was nice. Good ride home except for the strong gusts once in a while. All dry at my house when I got home not like MA.

Sat June 12th.
This ride shapes up to be one of the more exciting rides of the season. We will be headed out to Rhinebeck, NY to take part in the Rhinebeck Air show,
www.oldrhinebeck.org also going on next door at the fairgrounds is the AMA National Antique Motorcycle show.
In order to take part in these events, I would like to leave earlier than normal, as well as closer to the Mass Pike since this ride with involve some highway riding.

Please plan on being fueled and ready to leave for 8AM from the Cracker Barrel restaurant on Rt 20 in Sturbridge.

Well, we did get the ride in on Saturday, but did see a little rain along the way. Rode for about 25 minutes in the rain on the Taconic parkway down to Rhinebeck.
We were able to stay under cover at the Aerodome for the big burst of rain, then made our way over to the Antique Motorcycle show at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. For anybody who has not been to this before, I highly recommend it. It will definitely be on the calendar for next year !
Our next two rides are fast approaching, Sunday June 27th is the 10th anniversary Molly Bish ride. For more details, please see www.rideformolly.org I am on the ride committee for this event, please join us !
Saturday July 10th is our next event in the Let's Ride schedule, this will take us to Northwestern Mass and Southern Vermont as we tackle two of the taller peaks in the area. Mount Greylock & Mount Equinox.
Please plan on being fueled and ready to leave Higgins at 9 AM sharp- For Woody- it is 8:30...

We will we taking some back roads out to Mount Greylock in Massachusetts , then up into Vermont to grab a picnic lunch to take to the top of the longest toll road in the US, Mount Equinox Toll Road. http://www.equinoxmountain.com/skylinedrive/
Please be ADVISED THAT THIS ROAD HAS SOME TIGHT TURNS AND ELEVATION CHANGES.

Thanks to all who participated this past Saturday ! The rain came in a bit earlier than expected but we made the most of it !
We did take shelter from the storm along with another group of riders who were headed back to New Brunswick in the rain.
We had a nice remaining ride out to Jensen's in Bennington, VT for a bite to eat before the ride back.
Our next ride is Saturday August 14th down to Newport, RI. This is one of the rides that many folks look forward to each year. There will be some stretches of highway riding so be prepared. Please be prepared to leave Higgins by 9AM sharp.
The plan is to head into Newport where we will all be on our own to explore the sights, then return as a group.
Also, the September ride is now part of the Killington, VT bike classic. Any one interested in riding up together Friday night- all day ride on Saturday, then coming back on Sunday, please let me know.
I recommend getting a room at the Killington Grand Resort Hotel on the mountain.

It is becoming a very busy summer !!!
Come to Higgins on Aug 17 & 18 to see the new 2011 Victory lineup ! The Victory trailer will be there both days with demo rides for all. Please be sure to call the store to hold your demo slot.
Next Higgins ride is Saturday August 21 down to Newport, RI- this will have some highway riding. Please come ready to leave Higgins for 9AM sharp.
Also, the September ride will take place as part of the Killington Classic bike event in Vermont. I will have rides on both Friday & Saturday Sept 10 & 11 for those who will be attending. Please let me know and I can offer some suggestions on where to stay.
Please let me know if you have any comments/suggestions for future rides, these are to be fun for all. Let's get everyone out there riding !

The weather looks great for this Saturday's ride to Newport !
Please come fueled and ready to leave Higgins for 9AM sharp ! There will be a short section of highway riding on this one, so be aware. The plan is to get into Newport early, allow time for everyone to walk around and see the sights, grab a little seafood then start back around 1PM. Plan to be back in the Sturbridge area by 3:30-4.

Also, as a reminder the September ride will take place in Vermont at the Killington Classic ! I plan on heading up on Thursday night the 9th if anybody wants to join. I will have rides on both Friday & Saturday. Details and locations to follow. If anyone has any questions, please let me know !

Just a note but Newport has a "No straight pipes" ordinance. I never had a problem so just don't light them off in town. | |

Well, Newport did not disappoint ! A beautiful day in Rhode Island.
A non event in town with any "loud pipe" issues-
The sights, sounds & smells all made for a beautiful riding day. Traffic was a bit heavy, but we certainly made up for it. It was nice to see some new faces joining the fun !
Next month will be no different, join us for a few days of riding in Central Vermont ! I have day rides planned for Friday & Saturday September 10th & 11th as part of the Killington Classic bike event.
More details to follow, but the basic plans will be day long rides- Friday getting back to the area by 3 so that folks can get ready for the parade down the mountain. Saturday we will hit the twisties and the mountains !- after an early start, the plan will be to be back in the area by 4.

Our next ride is upon us !- We will be enjoying a few beautiful days in Vermont as part of the Killington Classic Bike event.
For those that wish to ride up on Thursday- a few of us are leaving at apprx 5:45 from the Xtra Mart Gas Station ( Next to the Cracker Barrel Restaurant) on Rt 20 in Sturbridge. Please RSVP if you plan on riding up.
Friday ride- Meet at the Charity's parking lot (Across from the Wobbly Barn on the Killington Access Rd ) for 9AM sharp- this will be a full day ride retuning approx 4PM.
Sat Ride- Meet at the Rochester Cafe ( this is on Rt 100 North approx 28 miles north of Killington- just go to bottom of access rd and get on Rt 100) The Cafe is in the center of town, you can't miss it- it is a very small town. This ride will leave at 8 AM Sharp- if you would like to come early for breakfast, you will not be disappointed. Today we will head north and take in some of the most scenic and twisty roads in Vermont. The plan is to be back in the Rochester area around 4PM.

Wow, what a fantastic riding weekend in Vermont during the Killington Classic !!
Thanks to all the fellow Victory riders who made the trip up and took part in the weekend rides. We did nearly 1000 miles in the 4 days at the event.
Friday & Saturday brought us to the scenic twisties in Vermont along with the beautiful scenery that goes along with it. Thanks again to all who participated, that is what these rides are all about- getting together and meeting new folks. For those that didn't join, come on down and join the fun !!
Our next ride is Saturday October 30th, where will may still have some leftover fall colors down to Northwestern CT for the day. Please plan on leaving Higgins for 9AM sharp. As always, please RSVP so that we may look out for you.

Yesterday was a beautiful fall ride !! Temps were in the mid 40's and the wind was blowing hard but the roads and riding partners were keeping things warm !!
We braved the elements out to Toymakers Cafe in Falls Village, CT- a nice riding destination. All tolled, we did about 200 miles fro the day.
AS the riding season winds down, please join us the last scheduled ride this coming Sunday, November 7th. We will be headed down to Mohegan Sun Casino in CT. Please plan on leaving the Cracker Barrel restaurant on Rt 20 in Sturbridge for 9AM SHARP.- We plan on stopping in Woodstock, CT at the fairgrounds to pick up some additional riders as well. Please RSVP so we can look out for you.
Also, if anyone wants to come early, a few of us will be having breakfast at the Cracker Barrel near 8AM.

Wow, how fast time flies when you are having fun !! The riding season has flown by and is starting to wind down for most.
The season saw some great new riding destinations as well as several new faces joining in the fun.I want to thanks Ron, Sue, Dave, Chris and all the folks at Higgins for letting me put these rides again together for all his wonderful customers. This is an opportunity for fellow riders to get together and enjoy the open road. Please take a moment to reach out to the folks at Higgins to thank them for making this happen.
I have truly enjoyed this riding season and for Ronnie letting me volunteer to do this. Plans are already under way for the 2011 calendar.
These rides only happen with YOU !! Please- share theses ride invites with your friends, the more the merrier. Your feedback is very important to me, so please let me know what I can do to make them more inviting to all.
