I've been noticing lately that I get a fair amount of black smoke at wide open throttle with my setup. Kinda reminds me of a tractor pull. Bike runs great, just has all the characteristics of a rich running machine.

Anyways, I was hoping some of you fellow cammers would post your VFC3 settings so I can compare and contrast your settings to mine. I shot Lloyd an email last night, but didn't have time to follow up with a call today. KevinX, I shot you a PM too. All you have to do is mode thru each of the colors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Green - 4
Yellow - 4
Red - 7
Gr/Bl - 2.5
Y/Bl - 3.5
R/Bl - 1.5

I am thinking I need to raise my Red/Blue or lower Red.

Thanks again

Interesting. Keep the RB at 1.5? Seems low, but I'll give it a try after this rain moves out of here.

Usually, when you buy the S1L1 setup you get a reflash card, mufflers and high-flow air filter. Since I was originally running Lloyds plate, VFC3 and Honkers, my dealer credited me the reflash card approximate value (since I didn't need it with the VFC3). Cams went in, VFC3 sent back for reprogramming to Lloyd and here we are.

I am having the same problem as ScoreBo...

When I get on my Vision hard I look like a Deisel truck going down the road...BLACK SMOKE!!
1. How do you read the VFC3 controller and see the settings?
2. How do you adjust to the posted KevinX numbers?
3. KevinX did my cams and install in lovely Florida, would coming back to TN and change in elevation causing his settings from Florida to make it run rich in an higher altitude? (980' ASL)

Gas mileage is great I get right around 40 MPG and I don't ride SLOW...

John,

When KevinX said "others the same" he was referring to HIS earlier post - NOT to your original post.

Your R/Bl should be increased to 5.5

Just to be clear, the VFC3 settings for your equipment (S1L1 pipes but using stock base map and Lloyds Cams & Intake plate):

G-3
Y-4
R-6
GB-0
YB-5.5
RB-5.5

Thanks Charbin. You are correct on my setup. Are you running a stock map too?

Joe Schmoe, That is probably what happened to me too. Lloyd thru it on the dyno in Daytona 2009. I am at 1100 feet here in Ohio.

John - I have the S1L1 map. I dyno'ed locally back in Oct and was quite pleased with the KevinX performance results (posted in my sig).

My buddy commented the other day, however, that I was spewing black smoke on heavy throttle - and I am popping more now during shifting in the lower gears. Recently had the bike in the dealership for its 20K service - guess I need to check that my mechanic didn't modify any of Kevin's settings. Also looking at Lloyd's exhaust gasket set as well as his adjustable Idle Air Valve.

Yeah I think that both a good gasket set along with the IAV will go a long way in helping with the backfire issue...but NOT the black smoke

Charbin, you seem to be inline with other S1L1 mapped riders here. Changing when the main / RB from 1500 rpms to 5500 rpms might be too aggressive for my stock mapped bike. I am going to lower my Red a half point at a time until I get rid of the smoke. I am also going to see if I can get my bike into the Ducati store here and put it on their dynojet so I can measure my AFRs.

You do NOT want to think of the RB setting as either 1500 or 5500 RPM. The adjustment is based on pulse width, and has little to do with RPM. Your biggest issues are that you are going to wot fueling WAY to early, and the sensativity is also WAY out of wack. The settings I gave you WILL work, and have proven themselves to be VERY close to ideal in most bikes with the same mapping.

Your ECM corrects for altitude, and some black smoke is not a worry. Remember these bikes operate best with a mixture in the 13.3 area, and that is pretty rich.

Tell me Kevin,
Just had had my Vision on free dyno run at a local bike rally, peak hp was 101.69 as shown on the attached dyno graph, not included on the graph was the torque which they told me was just under 110. Based on the above settings and the a/f ratio's shown on the dyno graph, what could I do in the way of settings to smooth out the a/f mixture and bring up the hp a little closer to the average of what you've seen on most Visions?

You are tending towars lean in the top 1/4 of the run, and adding to the red would certainly get you a few lost HP. While most Visions are close to each other in basic mapping. Some are off one way or another. Yours just looks to one of those. Just another thought here. Looking at the speed shown; the bike was run in 4th gear, and that would reflect a good 4-5HP loss over a good run in 5th
