Fairly new 09 Vision. 1250 miles. Just recently I noticed smelling a gas smell after fueling, which lasts well after refuelling and I can smell even driving. No visiable leaks. No apparent engine problems. I had heard something about a faulty fuel cap? Any advice here on what to look for?

Some of the Vision fuel tanks were defective in that the filler neck was stamped to thin. I had one. The first thing they did was get me another cap which had a rubber ring that covered the whole neck. In time that failed as the act of tightening the cap twisted the neck out of shape. Then they replaced the tank and all was fixed. The next time you fuel up and smell the gas, look down along the right side of the engine and you probably will see gas spilling out the overflow. Get a new tank under warranty.

My 09 TP had not only the smell, but at times gushers of gasoline down the side of the bike over the engine. Not very confidence inspiring. Got the new gas cap and all is well. No more gushers, or even the smell of gas. Get the new cap, you'll need it soon if not now.

I had the same thing happen recently and having read a number of posts in the past about gas cap issues I decided to remove the gas cap and make sure it was on properly. After doing so the gas smell was gone, this gas cap can be a problem.

Mine is in right now getting a new gas tank. Now here is the problem I'm having with this repair; For fuel to rise and overflow from the filler neck the tank has to be pressurizing. Since the tank is vented this should not happen. In addition because the tank is vented and since fluid always takes the path of least resistance, gas SHOULD run out of the vent long before it ever finds an alternate path with more resistance, aka the fuel cap. The ONLY conclusion I can reach is that the vent must have a ball type check which only allows fuel to vent once a preset pressure applies enough force to off seat the check valve. Since the filler neck on the fuel tank is no longer sealing properly the pressure at the cap is more easily bypassed than the check valve preset.
Anyhow I will let you guys know what I find after the repair is done and I have no reservation that the new tank will take care of the current spill issue, but I still have some concerns about why the tank is pressurizing to begin with. Seems to me that if the tank is pressurizing enough to raise the fuel level up to overflow the tank, even with only a 3/4 fuel level, that's a LOT of gas pressure or potential bomb between our legs. Liquid fuel is little concern but fuel in a gas state is highly explosive.

Ive smelled fuel, heavily since day 1 (July 09, on my 09 Prem Tour Vision.). Dealer ordered a new cap in Feb 10. Still now word or sign of a cap. Called dealer, says they're still back ordered. I knew it a load! Called Vision Customer No-Service and they are profound idiots. They asked me for the part number!%*&#. I said look it up. They said consult your dealer, and get back to them. I told them I called the dealer and "you" cant provide the part to them. I told them I consider this a SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM

I told them I called the dealer and "you" cant provide the part to them. I told them I consider this a SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM and if I smell gas, there's fumes and a leak and that's dangerous. I asked for my call to be escalated to a supervisor. Got a guy named Tom (theyre not allowed to give their last names, what's that tell you about confident customer service?). He asked me for the part #. I asked him are they really interested in resolving this issue or just giving me the run around and blowing me off! I told him that I would give him my VIN, he could do the research for the part # and call me back with results. My next call would be to Polaris Legal Department to review their breach of warranty and the next call to the DOT NHTSA to report their negligence care of an obvious defect in design/materials. I told him that this problem is all over every BLOG on Victory. Here, VOG and VMC Forum. How could he have no clue? He called me back in 30 minutes, gave me the new part # 2877937 and said the dealer would have it for me in 7 days. He had called the dealer.

Their customer service has no desire to resolve anything, admit anything, or assist without a big BS confrontation. I like my Vision but their care, courtesy and committment to customer satisfaction is non-existent. If you buy a Victory, just pray you never need real customer service or support. I'll share whether or not they truly crap the new cap or not! Two and half hours of my valuable time to get them to do the right thing!

I strongly recommend anyone with this fuel smell notify NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation to have them research this and find out why Polaris is resistant and uncooperative to remedy this. Polaris/Victory can blow smoke up our skirt, but they cant play the dumb game with the Feds. They have responded to me saying they are interested in other parties. So go their website and take the 5 min to enter your problem on this, remedied or not! http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm
