Posts: 135 Chesterfield, VA | I've done several searches and read all I can find here on the 2820 with the XM30 and think I know the answer to my question, but just want to double check with the experts. I have the Garmin 2820 with the XM30 (XM radio) mounted with the Victory Garmin mount and wired into the Victory/Garmin harness. With this setup I can get both directions and XM radio through the audio speakers, as the Garmin overides all other audio signals (at least this is how I understand it). It's my understanding that with this setup, I can only get XM through the speakers in mono - and that I have to use the headset output on the 2820 and hook it up to the aux cable in the glove box to actuall get XM in stereo.
I have two issues with this senario...one, if I'm listening to FM (radio system not in aux mode) I won't get turn-by-turn directions through the speakers from the 2820 (because the Garmin unit is now sending the signal via the headphone jack to the aux channel) - is this correct??? And two, if I use the aux cable for XM I lose the capability to use the iPOD cable.
So, finally here is my question - is there anyway to tap into the Victory/Garmin harness with a stereo cable from the Garmin headphone output and get stereo output through the speakers?? This would still leave the Aux mode free for an iPOD. I'm pretty sure the answer is no, or someone would have posted on how to do so, but since I'm a noobie here I figured I could get away with asking | |

Posts: 135 Yellowknife, NT Canada | I wanted to do the same thing and had the same issue. I called Garmin today and have been told the following:
When using the external Audio output jack on the side of the GPS, the Motorcycle harness audio is disabled.
The motorcycle harness on the back of the GPS unit is mono only. Stereo audio must be taken from the side output jack.
The Bluetooth interface on the 2820 cannot deliver stereo audio to a Bluetooth headset. (Unless you use a third party adapter from the audio output jack.
The Bluetooth standard of the 2820 is USB 2.0 HFP, OPP, and HSP, no A2DP which is the stereo standard, so it is mono.
The GXM30 module connected to the 2820 will give you XM radio, weather and traffic, but stereo audio must be taken out the side of the 2820 audio output jack.
The other solution for this is to upgrade to a Zumo 550, 660, or 665. They all have stereo Bluetooth interfaces...
Can someone confirm if the Vision 2010 radio connected to a Zumo 660 does get XM stereo Audio through the radio? A quick check on the schematic will show if the 660 delivers stereo or mono audio to the bike radio...
Hope this helps.... | |
