I'm installing the XM radio kit from Victory. I want to mount the antenna on top of the visor rather than under it in order to improve reception. The antenna itself is mounted to a piece of flat aluminum. I was wondering if that piece of aluminum is necessary or not. If I could get rid of it then I could attach the antenna directly to the visor for a cleaner look. Does the mounting plate enhance reception in some way or is it there just to facilitate mounting?

Thanks,
Marc

You are DEFINTELY on the right track - mount it on the top of the visor. The dealer installed mine underneath (supposedly in accordance with XM's instructions) and reception awful. I had them move it to the top of the visor and now it works perfectly. There's no reason to use the mounting plate - just Velcro it to the visor.

I went ahead and mounted it with the aluminum plate since nobody responded and I wasn't sure. I painted it flat black so its barely noticeable. The reception is excellent!
