Posts: 1158 Richmond, Virginia | The more i looked at it, the more i feel it was faked. If you look at the position of the reporter, there was no way she was not watching the
truck approach. It was too close proximity for even the driver to have not seen it the whole time he was sitting on the bike with nothing to do
until she signaled him to pull out. Its as fake as Lindsay Lohans regret for what she did. and even faker then Mel Gibsons apology for
hating..............well E V E R Y O N E. |

Posts: 785 Mt. Vernon, WASH. | The video looks 'shopped'. Also having been in Commercial aviation maintenance for 40+ years and having some experience with HUDs, the average driver would be distracted to the point of fatality by a HUD in their helmet. If the news ahows video from an F-16 where the pilot is dealing with an engine or systems failure. 99.9999% of those watching the video will be looking @ the display and all the 'cool' stuff projected on the combiner and not seeing whats going on outside the cockpit "DAMN, where did that farm house come from, and why is my windshield full of it?'. You need to train yourself to 'see' whats going on (situational awareness) outside and be 'aware' of what the combiner is giving you for info on a semi subconcious level. Typical pilot load on approach to the field, communicate with the tower, lower landing gear, adjust decent speeds, look for other traffic, select your flare point, continuiously trim the airplane, select flaps settings and speeds, arm speed brakes and finally land 190,000# of jet going 145 knots. Inability to cotrol situational awareness is why states are enacting 'texting/ talking on the phone while driving' laws because the average yahoo can't stay focused on just driving let alone doing other things @ the same time due to ditraction by bright, shiny objects.

BMW still offers thermal/infer red imaging on the car I drive (750Li) but the display is on the NAVI unit so it's not in line of sight and therefore is less distracting. It works REALLY well in foggy conditions and you really CAN see things in it that you cannot see with normal vision. Unfortunately, it means taking your eyes off the road to see the images on the NAVI but most people scan across the dash and can notice the "blips" on the NAVI and take action. In all, it works pretty well but I personally would not pay the $5K it cost for that "option" |
