My Vision is an '08 and although I bought the Tour Premium, I also ordered a Street fill panel for trunk removal.  I never used it until now and had it stored in the original bubble wrap for 2 years until today.  I decided to finally remove the trunk and take a ride street style - imagine my surprise (two actually) when I undertook this adventure:

First, was the unwrapping of the new. but 2 year old, fill panel.  My bike is black and the fill panel is a shiny new cherry red!  I feel really stupid for never checking that I had the right part and just stored it away in the wrapping. I went ahead with the removal anyway and came upon surprise number 2.  I have the CB/Intercom installed so that I have the audio plug in the console for my wired helmet headsets.  In order to remove the trunk, I had to disconnect the extra wires running to the CB module.  This made the one-man-removal a bit more tricky, but I managed it, despite the struggle with the extra wires I hadn't counted on.  Once I got the lovely cherry fill panel installed on my black bike, I took it out for a test ride.  It certainly looks good without the trunk, but I have completely lost my wired audio to the helmet.  I wasn't aware that disconnecting the trunk audio would also eliminate any usefulness for the console audio plug.  This seems rather limiting if it's truly designed that way - can you really only get wired audio from the console if you have the trunk on?

I knew the CB/Intercom was required to get the console plug and wiring harness, but I was not aware that once installed, all components had to remain connected or the plug goes dead.  Well, apparently that's the case.  So, now I have a non-matching fill panel and the audio is crippled without the trunk.  Not quite as convertible as I thought at first.  If I want wired audio I have to mount the trunk and if I want stylish cruising I have to do without wired audio.  Hmm...

Looks like your access panel in front of the seat is slightly ajar. Those can be tricky. You dont want it coming unstowed in flight. Of course if you did lose it you could always get a cherry one to match the other. Your saddlebag doors appear to fit nicely, not a trait of most 08's.

The access panel was indeed ajar and is now tight. As for bluetooth, I have a Scala G4 but when it is attached to a shorty helmet like the Scorpion EXO-100 it just isn't loud enough. Now that cooler weather may be approaching though, I will use the full face more and the Scala works better in there. Still, with the wired console plug, I really think it should be usable even with the trunk removed, but I guess the wiring harness just isn't set up to accommodate that.

I saw one Vision at Sturgis that the CB relocated to a saddlebag so he could use it without the tourpack installed.

I kinda like it that way. Don't trade or paint it.

Hehe, I kind of like it myself.  I wouldn't have bought it on purpose, but I am not so opposed to it that I will pay to paint it.  Besides, I will likely put the trunk back on for much of the time.

I had thought about moving the CB to the saddlebag, but doubt I will do it.

I have wondered about this too.
I am buying the CB for next season and my question is:
Is the CB in the trunk? when you take the trunk off does the CB go with it?
or is the CB under the access panel and it's just the passenger's jack and controls that are on the trunk?
thanks

The CB unit is normally mounted in the trunk in the compartment under the access panel in the floor.  When you remove the trunk you have to disconnect the various plugs that are connected under the seat. As I found out, this disables the CB and audio to the wired headset plugs.  The only option I know of is to move the CB to one of the saddlebags.  While this shouldn't be terribly difficult, it will certainly limit what you can carry as baggage on trips.  I'm still mulling that one and what I prefer most:  style vs. sound vs. storage.  I really wish I didn't have to make such choices, but that's life.

With the CB disconnected at the trunk, those selections are gone from the menu.  The bottom line appears to be that, short of custom wiring and splicing somehow, the wired audio plugs do not work with the trunk cb removed.

It does go a bit faster, but I thought it was the weight of the trunk being removed!  I had no idea it was the color change.

yeah that makes sense. I bet the audio system for the comm system is in the CB package.
any idea how big the CB is?
how much room would it take up in the trunk?

The CB module is installed below the flexible access panel in the trunk and doesn't take up any main trunk space.  Here is a shot of the CB module and a shot of the area where the connectors exit the trunk to mate with the connectors under the seat.  These are the connections that have to be made for the wired audio to work.  They have to be disconnected to remove the trunk, unless you relocate this module and the connectors to a saddlebag.

I think the cherry access panel looks kinda hot ! For the short period you plan to use it id agree leave it that way. However if you should decide to use it more, ship it to me, I can have my paint guy paint yours black and seal coat it so it wont scratch. Cost maybe 35.00 but the paint job will be better then Factory paint (which isnt high grade). On a humorous note, it sort of reminded me of that National Geographic special about those monkeys who live in the trees somewhere who are black but have yellow/orange butts !..... LOL ok clearly too much tv and beer here. going to get a banana now.
....hmm i wonder if they can run faster then solid black monkeys...................

My Vision is an '08 and although I bought the Tour Premium, I also ordered a Street fill panel for trunk removal.?

Bought my '09 in April, and purchased the backrest and wall-mount for the trunk. I didn't know about the 'fill panel'. Just checked at the Victory site - "Black Street Trunk Panel Item #: 2876888-266 $99.99" Damn!

Anybody have one they are looking to get rid of?

Old thread, new question. I sold my tour pack and bought the little panel to cover the gap. Mine is black for my black bike but only after opening the box at the dealer's. The one in the box was white.

Anyway, someone please tell me the trick to installing the panel. I have the seat and licence plate holder off the bike and, silly me, I thought I would just snap in the new panel....... NOT........... HELP..... I am drowning in ineptness.

You have to pull the license plate mounting hardware, then the long, plastic, 'V' panels to the right and left of the new panel can be snapped up. Then you can get the new panel installed, and snap everything back together.

Thank you so much, Boots. It sure helps to talk to someone in the know. In my ineptness, I was headed in the right direction but afraid I was going to break something. Anyway, it's a done deal now. Thanks again.

Now this is a model thread!!

Depending on your riding, you may just want to go with a luggage rack and then strap on a case whenever you need it. I personally leave the trunk on all the time as I store work gear in there for every day's commute, and put my helmet back there whenever I top at a store or someplace on the weekend. But I think the vision does look VERY nice without the trunk.

I sold my tour pack for $1k and bought the cover plate new for less than $100. No regrets unless you say you would have paid me $1500 for the pack!
