Installing the lower wind deflectors will move cool air across your legs.

hey 8ball, cycleops makes a metal color match lower if that is what you want. I'm a hold out on the lowers at all as I find the heat tolerable, and I never ride in shorts, but to each their own. I usually position my feet forward and use the upper louvers parellel with the fairing, creating enough turbulence to keep heat off. However, the Vision8 doesn't have the uppers and my only suggestion is, is to keep your feet further out while underway. You'll find a spot where it doesn't bother you, but short of that, there is currently no other solution available.

Lower wind deflectors. I thought they were ugly too, until i rode across Kansas in 102 degree heat last month. They look a lot better now.

As someone already mentioned, you can get the color-matched metal deflectors, and sell the clear plastic deflectors to someone else. The black hinges and black deflectors would blend in with your 8-Ball very well.

The other option is to wear long pants. Much safer, too. :-)
Seriously, the lower air deflectors work amazingly well. Both ways, actually.

I am currently working on the "Divertor". It will redirect the air off the cooler so it does not allow the extra heat to get to your legs. It should allow you to wear shorts.
It is in the finishing stages going to testing. I should have some answers in the next two weeks. It does not attach to your bike like the plastic wings. Not real clean looking to me...??
I have a web store going up in October ... we will be making custom parts for the vision.. wrap around front fenders, lowering kits, air ride suspension.... blacked out tail and turn signals, and a custom dropped seat made out of memory foam... way better feeling to ride on.
Keep in touch. If you want to see some pics email me at HMD520@yahoo.com
the website is HMD520.com

Here's a couple older threads that dealt with trimming the inner "swoosh" panel to reduce some of the heat on the legs:

Hey 8BALL, keep us posted how you deal with the heat issue. I don't use any lowers for two reasons. So I have found the upper will create a turbulence enough to allow more feet positioning with the heat. I road an 8Ball the other day and rode it like I do mine and didn't have any problems, and it doesn't have the uppers at all and I don't wear shorts when I ride.

Having worked in an emergency room in a prior career, my comment here is gonna be pretty bad, but all of you will understand.
WHAT KIND OF IDIOT WEARS SHORTS ON A MOTORCYCLE !!!
I got sick of seeing bike accidents rushed in with young boys who wanted to look cool , have all the skin torn away from their legs back shoulders and arms, because they rode in shorts, flip flops, and a tank shirt. Then riding behind him was his girlfriend wearing a tube top, daisey duke shorts and flip flops. They both laying there screaming in pain, and will N E V E R look the same for the rest of their life.....
Did they know better? YES. Did they ignore common sense? YES. How long does ones sympothy last for stupid people, NOT LONG.
Its like the woman crying out of control because she was diagnosed with lung cancer, and she smoked 2 packs a day for 22 years, but while she was sitting in the lobby she kept saying " WHY ME, WHY ME".

Seriously? A set of lower wind deflectors color matched to your bike, ISNT WORTH THAT????

i was in a ATV accident 13 years ago. as far as shorts vs jean, my jeans ripped like they were made of paper and my skin on my leg was just as bad as the skin on my arm (wearing tank top) so unless your wearing chaps i think jeans give you a false sense of having armor on .. at least with my accident.

Thx for all the great feedback , especially THE ONES that were trying to be my father . Im sure the ones that were yelling in caps are probably the tools that buy a bike and go out and buy a leather jacket , chaps and boots and think there a "BAD ASS" biker . lmao .Seen ALOT of them in my day . You guys that talk all this shit on the board should find out about the person and know who they are before you start opening up your pie hole- might learn the hard way.

actually 8ballcrnrpkt, that would be me that buys the leather jacket, chaps and boots, and thinks they are a B-A-B. The others, I'm not sure about...

Ooooo...you sound like a seriously bad boy...with your 5 posts and month of membership on the board, not to mention your anonymous status. Get real. The other comments are instructive to guys that wear shorts and tennis shoes on bikes that can kill you in 5 seconds. I am not anonymous, and you are welcome to talk to me about the hundreds of accident victims I treated over my 20 year career as a Virginia Paramedic. A reality check is the fact that we are on bikes at all- it is a calculated risk every time we go for a ride. The members of this forum are incredibly generous with their knowledge about the bikes, and about riding in general. So do yourself a favor and stow the attitude. A real badass biker is the guy in full protective gear on a 104 degree day, and comes home overheated but unscathed. I am not saying that I live up to that standard all the time, but I know a smart rider when I see one. They are usually the ones in the "power rangers" suit!

I have not commented....please tell us about yourself. What other motorcycles have you owned? Where did you buy your 8-Ball and where do you live? What type of work do you?

Take Care.

I say to each his own. While I have gotten far better at riding with protective gear over the years, I still have days when I ride in a T-shirt, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't take a quick hop up the street to the store on occasion in shorts. My SO finally got me to trade in my skid lid for a real helmet, but in truth, I still miss those days with my hair in the wind (not that there's much left).

As far as wind deflectors are concerned, they are ugly (in my opinion). In the heat, I just move my feet forward and legs out and all is well (even in temps over 100). In the cold, I move everything in tight to get all the heat I can. It all seems to work for me, but again, to each his own.

Some of this will be personal opinion, but since it was brought up. I, like ALOT of people I see, rarely wear the proper protective gear. During the hot times of the year here in Ga. you will find me in my usual attire of boots, jeans, t-shirt or work uniform shirt, and non DOT half helmet. As the weather cools I will add whatever is required to make it comfortable to ride. I'm sure that the concerns for others safety could be appreciated, as stated every time we throw a leg over the bike we take a risk. I liken it to the risk of driving my Nisan Frontier as compared to say driving a Ford F350. Where does one draw the line at what is safest? I really think it is a judgement call for the individual. Sorry for the hi-jack, now on to the original ?. I, too, have alot of heat coming off the motor of my 8Ball. I have found the best solution without lowers is as far forward and out as I can or all the way back on the boards. You will still feel it, just not as bad. As was mentioned before, take a look at cycleops. They really are some nice looking lowers. You would have to buy the factory offerings in order to get the mounts. You might consider also waiting to see what HMD has coming out. Personally, I think I will look into the black powdercoated from the aftermarket when the money allows or in the spring when I will need them again. Sorry this was so long

I did not have the lowers for the first two summers and got along OK. Installed this year and they do work in moving cool air to the legs. But, when adjusted for maximum leg cooling, I feel they move a lot of air to the body, which at higher speeds causes in my opinion buffeting around my face. Several adjustments have to be made so your comfortable. The one thing about these, and you probably have figured it out, they do not offer any comfort when sitting in traffic, stopped at lights or in a traffic crawl. I actually like the lowers for cold riding better than hot weather riding.
