| Hello All
Had a very embarassing thing happen to me today. I was slowing down to stop at a light on my Vision. I was wearing tennis shoes with long shoelaces on them. Right before i was getting ready to put my feet down to stop, my shoelace jamed around the cluch pedal. The Vision went down right in the middle of the road. My face turned red, I got up, picked the bike up and jumped back on. That was embarrasing enough but then I had to sit there at the light and wait for it to turn green. There is a bright side to this story though, the Tip Over Pertection worked like a charm and I did'nt have a scrath on my baby. |

Posts: 81 Salinas, Ca. | Glad nothing "bad" happened to you! One more reason not to wear tennis shoes while riding.. I almost went down while riding my Kingpin once when my pants hooked on the shifter as I was about to come to a stop. I was able to shift my weight slightly to the right and come to rest on my right leg only.. Its a scary feeling!!!! |

| Had my shoe lace get caught twice now I make sure to double knot them. :P Sure is a strange feeling when your foot can only move 4 inches. O.o I stopped and leaned on my right leg and got it loose. Sometimes I just don't feel like putting my boots on. |

Posts: 219 Pittsburgh, PA | I agree with varyder that a motorcycle safety course is needed. Ever notice how many riders think it is cool to ride in shorts with tennis shoes (or even flip flops). I thought I was an above average rider until I took a safety course and realized how much stuff I didn't know. I feel so strong about this subject that I took the course a second time about five years after the first. It was the only way to get a buddy to take the course. I learned stuff the second time too. |

As they say, "Always dress for the crash, not the ride". I've got some real nice combat styled safety boots that zip up on the side. I never un-tie them, just un-zip and zip whenever they come off or go on. Just takes seconds. And the laces are double tied short at the top of the 8" boot. Also there are no metal components so they will not set off a metal detector. For anybody that's interested here's a link to just one of many suppliers on line. BTW there is a version without the side zip so if you want the zipper make sure that's what you are looking at when you shop on line. http://www.uspatriottactical.com/converse-8-stealth-soft-toe-with-side-zip-boots.html |

Kodonnell1's story is an object lesson and a good reminder that it is the little decisions that can get you killed before your time.
Like Hickock deciding to sit with his back to the door, choosing inappropriate footwear could have proven much more dangerous than seems possible on the surface. In this case it caused a minor embarrassment; but what if he had been unable to stop at the intersection because it had it been the brake pedal in which he got tangled.
There are reasons why loose clothing and jewelry are prohibited around machinery in manufacturing plants, there are reasons why smart country boys don't roll their pant legs while driving the tractor and there are reasons why certain types of gear are "traditional" for motorcyclists.

| Just had to chime in to say this happened to me too! I did not go down... but it was CLOSE!
I ALWAYS tuck my laces deep into my boots after that day.
No laced boots will be the only boots I buy in the future.
Oh, haha, and it was the brake pedal. If your lace is caught on the clutch you have a lot more going on than just rouge laces....

Thanks for the reminder. It isn't the first time I have read about that, but I don't check mine enough. I wear tennis shoes 98% of the time.
