I WAS WONDERING ? WHAT TYPE OF MILEAGE RIDERS ARE GETTING FROM THE ELITE 3 SO FAR? HOW DO YOU FEEL THEY ARE HOLDING UP AGAINST OTHER BRANDS YOU HAVE USED?
PS I PICK UP MY STEEL GRAY VISION TODAY.

Congrats, Bobby. break it in nicely (by the book) for about 200 miles, then ride it like you stole it!! I've got almost 6k on my Vis & rear tire does show some wear (probably wouldn't show as much if I could stay out of the trottle). Front tire looks just like it did when delivered. Luke

I got to looking at my tires yesterday while at the dealer. he said they looked like they were cupping. There is about a two inch flat strip in the middle of the front tire and raised ridges can be seen and felt, moving in or out from the middle strip. The back tire has almost the same pattern just not as pronounced. Larger strip in the middle. Knowing where I drive, my daily commute is almost half a straight line path and it is 60 miles one way, so 60 a day is just flat lane running. So, I figure I am just wearing down the middle way before I get to the sidewall. We shall see, dealer didn't have any idea on how long these tires will last.

Speaking of tires, what tire pressure do all of you use in the front and rear tires? Do you mostly ride solo, or two up? Relatively straight road riding, or do you seek out the twisties?

I run maximum pressure as per the manual in both tires. Ride 50% two up. Love the curves. I have been told that "cupping" on motorcycle tires is normally caused by under inflation of the tire. I had the Elite 3 non-radial on the front of my Kingpin and it started showing what I would consider cupping at 16,000 miles. It still performed well, but puts a little more vibration into the bars, especially on curves.
I believe the Elite 3 and the size on our Visions is the same as the Gold Wing, so I'm pretty sure it should give good overall performance.

I agree with VisionTex on tire pressure. A buddy of mine rides a 1800 VTX and ran his front tire about 10 psi under the max pressure. He had to buy a new one 8000 miles later. I told him to run the max and he has not had the same issue since.

OH MY GOD. Is this bike nice or what.???? I asked the tire question because my HD Dunlop (401 / 402) experience has been, early wear, cupping on the front tire and replacement of the rear by 6-8 thousand miles. My last bike I changed to Metzler. They call for even higher pressures (45 - 49 psi) but the ride and wear were great.
