Visionary
Posts: 3006 San Antonio, TX | Last night on the way home some cars were slowing down in front of me to below 35mph. So I relaxed the throttle, grabbed some clutch and went to down shift from fourth to third gear.
As I put my foot on the front shifter peg something did not feel right....then it felt really wrong. This was because the last thread on the shifter peg backed out and the rubber covered peg went bouncing down four lanes of rush hour traffic.
Now what....do I pull over? I can't since there is no place to pull over. So I give myself a quick lesson on downshifting without a shifter peg on the heal toe shift lever.
Before I got home I was downshifting without an issue.
Now where did I put the old toe only shift lever with the old shift peg in it??? Found it....but I could not get the peg off of it....nutz! I rode to work this morning with a pegless front shift lever. I used a bench mounted vise a work to remove the stuck peg from the old shift lever.
It sure was nice riding to lunch with a front peg again.
When I get home I am going to use some Blue Locktite on peg to hold it in place.
Three of my co-workers/friends ride. One a 2009 Ultra Electra Glide and the other on a late 1960's BSA hardtail chopper. The third has a HD Deluxe that rides to work as often as I do NOT ride.
It the department meeting this morning I mentioned the flying shift peg. I told the BSA rider that I was used to picking up parts that fall off of his bike when we ride...not parts off of my Vision!
The Ultra rider chimed in with "Now your Vision is a real motorcycle!" followed by "A motorcycle becomes a Real Motorcycle only after some parts fall off!" Then everyone at the meeting had a good laugh.
Ride safe and tighten your pegs!
