I oredered a set of saddlebag lowers from Arlen Ness in Dublin, Ca. I looked on line and they weren't available. I was in my neighborhood Nees bike shop and was purusing the catalog and low and behold found them there for $100. less. I called the dealer back and they told me that one, the catalog was old and two that the ones manufactured now are better quaility...Anyone else out there got a set of these lowers? They look bad ass on the Vision, let me know.

Bud, I think you posted picture of them before on the VMC but I'll say I like them, and like them again. When I get an 8-Ball, they would make an excellent compliment, especially if you could put a cool flame graphic on them.

Sweet looking ride..

Looks nice... Arlen made a set that look a little different for the first VV he built. He really chopped the bike... his bike is amazing. I noticed that they fit really close to the pipes. Do they take the place of the covers on the pipes? or just go over? or do they just hook under the pipes ? The first design he showed me once over 2 years ago and they looked like they went over the pipes. Here is a picture of the first design... for some reason i could never find them.

The ones they had in the ness catalog never got off the ground that was in 08 I wanted a set real bad.
I was able to buy the new ones last spring. But they will not fit on S1/L2 mufflers because they replace the chrome covers.
Just like the stock ones there is three clamps . There not tech freindly ,like change'n rear tire' brakes . still like'm. The price was around 600.00 at that time.

The ones on Arlen"s bike are great. I asked him for a set but was unable to get them since his are a one off. Ness told me that he made them but were far too expensive to manufacture on any scale, so I settled for the current ones that slip over the pipes. They are good and I have not experienced any problems with them. I had Ness in Dublin, actually, Big John at Ness install them, total cost was about $650. They are hand fabricated by the fellows at Ness, are metal, well finished, good fitting and powder coated. I can still use the Gatlin Tips on my Big Honkers, so it works for me.

Any pics? Would love to see what they looked like. I spoke to Arlen when i was first considering building my bike. Arlen is one of the best , and friendliest builders out there. He told me that they were having some problem with the first design of covers that looked like the catalog pic. I have considered designing some for production. Its just hard to make the mounts. It requires alot of work in order to make them right. For production purposes, Arlen is right . They would be expensive. You could make them out of fiberglass with steel inserts. Would keep them light and strong. I know Arlens first set were some type of ABS.

We are working on mocking a set of lowers up that resemble the first design that Arlen made. Just trying to keep the cost factor down.. and the product quality up. Its a little difficult to make the attachments secure enough without making them to heavy. They will be hand laid fiberglass with a gelcoat. Steel brackets and inserts for hardware attachments.

Michael, that is great news!  I first tried to get Arlen to sell me the lowers/skirts from his personal bike (which is now for sale at the Dublin store), to no avail.  I ended up buying the new and in my opinion NOT improved version of the skirts which you see here.  They are better than nothing, but if you could R & D a similar skirt to Arlen’s first design for a reasonable cost (whatever that means) I will be first in line (right after you of course).

One concern may be ground clearance.  When I spoke with Arlen last regarding the original skirts he told me that they did ground on hard corners.  I would hate to give too much up in the way of handling since that is one of the VV truly spectacular strengths.  My bike is lowered (by Big John at Arlen’s shop) but has no problems with grounding the skirts that are currently installed.

Please keep me posted.  You have my email address from our recent conversations re: my purchase of your awesome VV front fenders!  Every VV owner should take a look at your front fender, it adds so much custom for a reasonable price.

Cheers

Arlens bike is like mine... really low. That is the reason that the rear lowers might rub on a sharp turn. I have a skid plate from Arlen that is around 2" off the ground. It will scrape when i make a sharp turn. I really doubt the lowers would rub on a normal turn. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO PAY A SMALL PRICE TO LOOK GOOD. LOL
Should have a set mocked up before chritmas... just all depends on the manufacturing end. One off's are always possible. Its the multiplication that bogs you down.
