| My personal best was my 2010 trip to Sturgis. 4600 miles in 11 days, 6 months after tongue cancer treatment rated at 3.5 cause they did not think it would kill me. Surprised all my doctors.
Plan to go again in 2011 and try to swing out to SLC to see my 5 grandbabies. They grow up too fast.

Over 2,600 in 3 1/2 days, then 3,000 miles in 5 days, with over 2,000 in under 48 hours.
Other long distances rides as well, all single on Vision.
2011? Plenty in the imagination at the moment, nothing planned, but most of my rides are taken within 2 weeks of deciding.

I traded any ability of rest or sleep for that.......I left at 10pm so I could get to the "sights" during the day time.....and I was leaving as it was getting dark. Spent a few minutes at all the places, rode Needles Hwy.....and blew 1 1/2 hours riding thru the Badlands.
Still had plenty of time to knock out the 1500 miles in the 36 hours allowed......1680 in 33 hours.

Posts: 75 McHenry, IL | My longest on the Vision was 6800 miles over 14 days. The Vision was 2 weeks old and had 1000 miles on her when we left Northern IL. Our trip took us north and west as far as Jasper, Alberta then we followed the Rockies south back into the US then over through Glacier, the Tetons then over into Wyoming, Yellowstone, Utah, Colorado, the 4 Corners then finally looked at my cell phone and found out I only had 3 days to get home and back to work! Would do it again in a heart beat! If I can figure out attaching a picture, here is my favorite one from that trip. It was taken along the Ice Shields Highway somewhere inbetween Jasper and Banff.
There's a few more from that trip in my Gallery.

Posts: 1359 New Bohemia, Va | team5150, personally I would intentially ride in truck wash for many miles to get accustom to the feel. This was primarily when there was not much traffic around and would not interfer with anything else or run a greater risk.
When I rode to Cali this past summer there was a constant wind out of the south with tempatures running above 100. It was the worse to date for me, and the wind was so strong at one point it blew over a tractor trailer in the east bound lane. Not being a hero, but like you, I ain't sitting anything out unless it was a twister. To me, the elements is all part of the ride...

Posts: 199 Salt Lake City | Flew to Phoenix last June and picked up my VVTP; it had 6K miles on it. I hopped on it, and rode about halfway home to Salt Lake City, SLC on his VVT, purchased about 1 month before me. Later in the month we took a roadie to San Francisco, then up the Oregon coast - 2,500 mi. in 5 days; beautiful ride. Finished the summer with 14,000 miles.
Took some great trips on my VTX 1800S also: 2,000 mile trip to Sturgis and back home thru Yellowstone-had a nasty 50 mph. crash about halfway home, but after a trip to the ER in Cody Wyo. for some stitches and getting patched up for some wicked road rash, I rode the bike home after my buddies pulled off the mangled highway bars and pegs, broken windshield and lowers, and rt. side leather saddlebag. The last trip I took before I sold the VTX was a four corners trip(UT, CO, NM, AZ) that was a stunner. 1,600 mi. in 5 days.
We're gonna take the wives down south into Colorado and New Mexico this summer, which will be a first for us taking our sweethearts with us for a ride longer than a couple of days. We should be gone about a week, and will cover 1,600 miles or so. Can't wait!
