I rode yesterday with my church m/c group, Ezekiel's Wheels. Rode to Micanopy and back. Riding thru the Ocala National Forest, the rider in front of me dropped her sunglasses out of her pocket while turning right from a stop. I put the kickstand down and retrieved them and put them in my iPod box. By this time, the group in front of me was gone. This is out in Nowheresville and so I decided to open her up. Left the group behind me in my dust. Mind you, I'm not the one usually running hard. I may squeeze an extra 10-15 above posted limits. I'm sure many here have done much worse than me, but I ran her hard thru the first 5 and looked down at the clicker and it was showing 110 mph. Hadn't even shifted to 6th yet. Funny thing was, she was as smooth and controlled as at 70. Wind was not a factor either. Slowing was just as easy... just smoothly apply the brakes, no wobble, no panic, it was FUN!

Could have never done that with my TC. Too much wind even at 85-90. The old girl just didn't seem nearly as stable.

110 mph in 5th? I thought I maxed mine('09 VVTP S1L2) out last summer in Cal at 110 in 6th. It didn't feel like it had more; granted, I had the windshield up and I'm 6-9 and 260 lbs. I was on a pretty flat stretch, and thought I'd get a little more.....
The rev limiter won't kick in at that speed in 5th? I really haven't pushed it real hard thru the gears.....

The Vision will run 115 MPH in 5th at the 5200 RPM redline. The stock rev limiter kicks in at 5500 RPM, which is 122 MPH in 5th. The stock SPEED limiter keeps you at 120 MPH in 6th (4550 RPM). Maybe you had a bit of a headwind the day you tried it. It definitely makes a difference, especially on a stock cammed bike, which quits pulling after about 4500 RPM. Try it with a tailwind.

Lloydz reprogrammed ECU lets a Vision turn up to 6400 RPM. With his cams, the motor is still pulling hard at 5800 RPM and easily hits 6000+ RPM in gears 1 through 4. It'll do it in 5th too, but it takes a little longer to get there, and a tailwind helps.

With Lloydz goodies, including the reprogrammed ECU, my Vision will pull 129 MPH in 5th gear (with a tailwind). I'm not sure what the absolute top speed in 6th gear is, but it's faster than a GL1800 Goldwing, which tops out at 129 MPH, GPS verified (his speedometer was saying 135). Redline (5200 RPM) in 6th gear on a Vision is a true calculated 137 MPH.

A GL1800 Goldwing's power peaks at 5550 RPM, which is 129 MPH in 5th (true MPH, but their speedometers will be showing about 135).

A properly set up Lloydz cammed Vision's power peaks at 5850 RPM, which is 129 MPH in 5th gear.

The gearing of a 2008 Vision, expressed as MPH per 1000 RPM, is this:
1st gear = 7.04 MPH
2nd gear = 10.93 MPH
3rd gear = 14.49 MPH
4th gear = 17.88 MPH
5th gear = 22.18 MPH
6th gear = 26.42 MPH

Bottom line is this: put Lloydz goodies on your Vision, challenge your GL1800 riding buddy to a 5th gear roll-on contest starting at 50 MPH, shift your Vision into 6th gear at about 120 MPH, and all he will ever see is your tailights from beginning to end.

I know Llyodz does great performance stuff for the bike; I've talked to my dealer in Centerville, UT and they tell me that they have to pull the '09 motor to do work. Aargh! Would I be happy with other Lloydz performance upgrades that wouldn't cost close to 3K after dealer charges?

Ha! However (comma) I pace myself on the rides and stay within the reasonable boundaries of the law and make very short stops, validated by an average speed of 65mph in time and distance.

However (comma) one time a cager thought he would match me...I was astonished when I glanced at the speedo, no way...smooth....very smooth.

The manual does say that you have to drop the motor to put the cams in, but Lloyd figured out how to do it with the motor in the frame, and he taught some other top wrenches how to do it that way too. It can be done in a couple of hours using Lloyd's method. Have your dealer call Lloydz for details, or better yet, call them yourself.
http://www.lloydz.com/

We are also lucky to have Kevin at Polaris of Gainesville in Florida, and Rylan Vos of the Vic Shop in central Iowa (member Vicbuilder on these forums) http://www.thevicshop.com/ who do housecalls. Rylan has laid his hands on my bike, and I can recommend his work. Get 3 or 4 of your buddies together to have their bikes upgraded and Kevin or Rylan will hold a "Cam Party". Contact Kevin (member KevinX on these forums), or at Polaris of Gainesville http://www.polarisofgainesville.com/

Somebody here can probably recommend a dealer in your area who is versed in this upgrade.

I can't say whether you would be happy with the cost vs benefit ratio of the upgrades as only you know that answer, but your rear wheel horsepower will go from your stock 80 or 85 to somewhere between 110 to 115 with Lloyd's cams, intake, a fuel controller, and his reprogrammed ECU. That's what I'm using, with a stock exhaust, and my Vision went from looking at Goldwing taillights to showing them mine. My bike looks and sounds and acts totally stock, until I open her up. I'm happy.

Dang! You aren't afraid to wind her out are you? Was that on level ground, or downhill with a tailwind? No Goldwing that I've ever seen can touch it, in either case.

Okay, who's got the fastest GPS verified Vision top speed?

115 mph on my VVSP, rolled up fast on a slow truck and slowed down. The difference between the Vision and my TCD is like night and day. Have a desire to find out how fast the Vision will go but always remember that the tires are rated for 120 mph. Figure a 25% safety rating and we are good to go until 150 mph. Computer will kick in before that so?

Ride hard, ride fast, but above all-ride safe and free......

Stock setup on the fwys in SoCal, I've hit 120 a couple times (mach 0.16). I think any performance mods are going to get me in trouble.

Yep, they'll all do 120 stock with no trouble. I wanted more power because my buddy and I have been racing each other with our cars and bikes for the past 40+ years. We've got sport bikes for going really fast, but his touring bike (GL1800) could outrun my Vision. That wouldn't do. Besides, he made the comment that NO V-Twin touring bike could run with his beloved 100 horsepower 1800cc 6 cylinder Goldwing. He was quite fond of making that comment, especially when around our sport bike riding friends. "Jap bikes are better than American bikes" you know, that kind of thing. Thanks to Lloyd Greer's hard work and research, I have been able to shut him up. All in fun, of course.

Increased top speed doesn't really matter that much. The ability to run away from the vaunted Goldwing when both bikes are in 5th gear is priceless. I can now do that and still beat the Goldwing on fuel economy to boot.

Thanks Lloyd. Thanks Rylan. Thanks Victory.

Ronnie
