Greetings all, I'm newly registered here but I am on other forums under different tags. I own (along with the bank) an 08 Vision street that was a test ride bike so it only had 1900 mi. when I bought it 18 months ago. The dealer put as near as I can figure, around $3500.00 in cataloge accessories on including chrome tip overs and rear closeouts, gatling gun pipes and lots of other goodies as well as blacking out most of the pewter panels and wheels on a black bike. A friend who runs RENEGADE CLASSICS riders store in Everett, WA. gave it it's name, when I pulled up in front of the store straight from the dealers, she walked around it and said 'that's sinsiter looking' so, off to DMV and got my ego plate 'SYNSTR'.

I'm retired from 45 years of beating myself over the head as an aircraft mechanic/inspector/instructor. Having spent that much time beating on airplanes I like to tell people that, after two divorces I suffer from 'AIDS' Aviation Induced Divorce Syndrome. Just me and the cat and I don't have to call her to say 'I'll be late'.

Been a rider since High School back in the mid 60's (starting with a YAMAHA 250 twin) and got off a long term owned '85 YAMAHA VENTURE ROYALE I bought used from a friend about 11 years ago with around 32K on the clock then (98K when I sold it) to buy synstr.

I've been following the discussion about handicapped parking, and my cure was when my Dr. agreed to give me a permission letter to the DMV for a 'skinny guy' hanger for my cars mirror, I asked for two as I also own a collector car. A couple pieces of velcro on the extra blue card and the dash panel of the bike and I'm good to go! I've had people threaten to call the police since handicapped parking falls under ADA Federal jurisdiction, I hold up the legal parking permit and tell them 'Hey, I can ride, I just can't walk, go ahead call the cops' they look all sheepish and walk away. At least in Washington State, if it's got a legal plate, you can use your handicapped sticker regardless of whether it's a HONDA trials 49 c.c. or a Kenworth. In Washington you can get a skinny guy license plate for you scoot too-

I have zero regrets about buying synstr as I wanted a VISION from the first time I saw a picture in a magazine and moreso since I sat on one about three years ago @ a motorcycle expo in Seattle. Since I bought her I've had an aftermarket seat mod so the squishy stock seat (like sitting on a bag of marshmellows)now has a jell pad and new pan that fits my big pan and the tall backrest which I love. Can't wait for the rain to stop so I can make up for all the miles I missed last Summer while house hunting and moving, currently have 6K on the clock.

Welcome to THE forum, Bill. Learn the 'search' function on the 'Forum' page and you can find out all about oil and tires - two subjects that just pull you closer to the grave.

Welcome.
I don't say anything to people parking in handicap parking because I have no idea what might cause their handicap. I have a nephew with CP and my Mom's has a hip replacement. Him, you can tell and her you can't but she gets tired if she walks too far. (43 years as a waitress at the same place)
I had a guy stop me the other day and ask how I keep my truck doors dent free. I told him I park way far out in parking lots. So I have no need to park in the handicap spots. I am sure there are many abusers of the parking rules but that's not my job. I just want those that deserve the sticker to be able to use them no matter what others think.

Thanks all for the welcome! I've discovered over the years that most cage dwellers pretty much act the same whether looking right through you on the street to showing their worst side when face to face over stuff like parking spots because they lack certain social interpersonal skill sets. Having had a destroyed ACL and arthritus in my knee and lower back I really can't walk that far so I take advantage of the parking. It seems that those of us who do ride a lot take a different, somewhat more tollerant view of the subject.

The last set of hides I put on the VENTURE were E3's after riding ELITE 2's for years-I immediately took a liking to the 3's and found them rock steady with two up up to between 90 and 95 last year on synstr.

Unfortunately Washington will not outlaw carbide studded tires so every Yuppie Puppy soccer mommy drives around all winter in the mommy box with 4 studded tires on mostly rain wet streets, grinding Oregon Trail style ruts in every piece of pavement which then fill up with rain water so you have to learn to ride between the center stripe and the wagon rut, about 6 to 8 inches of semi OK paving.

Here in minesota you can get a handy cap plate for bikes. I think it would be a great plate for you.
The only reason I see that people are jealous of handy caps cause they want to park close to the store cause there lazy ass attitude don't want to walk unless they have a bad of chip in there hand so they can keep there fat ass looks. I park in the back and walk yes with a bag leg they could get me down front but then I wouldn't be trying to get rid of my gut now would I.
The lazy ass's that park in front of the gas station door cause they don't want to walk makes me wish they all have flats and no jack.

not to jack this thread but there are so many lazy people where I work. They park their trucks in motorcycle only parking because it's close to the building and they assume no one will ride this time of year. I have brought it up many times but our spineless HR department won't do anything about it. I fantacize about taking the metal sign and throwing it through their windshield ( they park right in fron t of the "Motorcycle Parking Only" sign) but that isn't the Christian thing to do and I need my job

Welcome to the Vic Club SYNSTR!! As I'm sure you have found there are innumerable useful topics here and a lot of fun socializing to boot. I think you will also find a large percentage are of the same mind set and general demographic so to speak: been riding on and off since our youth, have a greater appreciation for a fine machine more than for a certain image or whatever, love something unique yet quality built, don't particularly fit any other stereotypical mold if you will. But most of all we all love to ride a lot and enjoy the open road and the friends we make along the way.

Please participate often and share your experiences. From your posts above it's obvious that you have had much experience, and I think I can speak for many here by saying I find these kind of entries very enjoyable to read.

Again welcome and most of all enjoy the ride!!

Hey Bill Welcome... I too am an aircraft mechanic, or rather I now supervise those who are so I don't turn too many wrenches any more. You know the old saying "those who can, do and those who can't just sign the airworthiness cert"... Ha Ha! I've worked on T-Birds and Challengers, and currently Auroras (P3 Orion to our southern friends...) I am up here on Vancouver Island. My wife (has a shadow) and I (ViVi prem tour) ride down your way a lot. We are going in March to pick up a motorcycle trailer from wags. We were going to pick it up in Mt Vernon, but the wife wants to hit the shoe outlet stores around Seattle so we are picking it up in Mukilteo. So we are heading down to pick it up the end of Mar. Anyway, take care and again welcome!!

Wow-that sounds familiar-I sold my second Yamaha Venture in black cherry to a friend, with a combined buck and a quarters worth of miles on them from down here in Gig Harbor. They can really cover the turf, huh? Got my midnight cherry '08 street a year ago last Thanksgiving off Craigslist from a couple guys across HWY 167 from Hinshaws in Kent, (5700 miles, about 9800 now) when the economy was so bad it went for $14,500 from some poor soul who'd had it repoed in CA. It sports S1L2 exhaust and the flash & filter, but could always use more power. ;0) The Venture had a better stereo, too, Mitsubishi, but I'll trade that for the heated seats and grips anytime, as well as the ability to splay my legs out like a teenager on the telephone-and besides, you really couldn't hear it that well above 80 anyhow! I also track with you on the rain-check my handle-it's been raining nearly EVERY FREAKIN" DAY FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS!!! SHEESH!! (Except today, just to make a liar outta me, LOL)

But on those rare occasions where the Olympics are visible on one side, Puget Sound in the middle and the Cascades with Mt. Rainier on the other-well I guess I don't have to tell you why we put up with it, huh? So welcome aboard, buckle up, think about a car tire, and some Gerbing gloves and liners, and if you get down to the south end of the sound, well, there's a couple joints worth checking out, like the Bethel, one of the last plank floor bars left around here. It's fun to park in front with the hogs lined up like cordwood and watch the crowd gather 'round! And the Peninsula roads are second to none.

I really like the black VV's, but off the internet you take what's out there. I agree with your moniker-we sorta named ours the "Jukebox," 'cause, well...

Welcome.
Yes indeed just the most gorgeous area up there when the weather is nice. Spent 6 weeks flying out of Payne Field in April of '06 did not expect much weather-wise but it was just beautiful almost the whole time. Regretted not having my bike there back then.
My wife and I ride up to OR every couple of years or so have to extend that up to the Seattle area next time.
Wishing you a nice spring this year...

Thanks!
those of us who live here caution our out of area guests to go home, bitch about the rain and freezing winds, the fact that none of the roads are paved, and we are still having issues with the natives and keep this place under their hats. We like to use the 4B's 'buy gas, buy food, bye-bye.
Rainrydr is right about covering ground I was all over WA. ID OR., and MT. on the Yammer and looking forward to hitting the road on synstr. I've got heated grips, lots of weather related clothes (comes with being an airplane guy) and if wet enough, I've got leather half chaps and waterproof boots.

Worked on Paine Field for 14 years @ BF Goodrich as an Inspector, and instructor until 2002. Now you need to come back and see Paul Allens Flying Heritage Collection of rare WW2 fighters and John Sessions' Heritage Collection, both on Paine across from each other. During the Summer Allens stuff flies every other Saturday and John flies his stuff all the time (John has a B-25, F8F Bearcat, F7F Tigercat, P-51B, and a SPITFIRE amongst other toys) Allen is about to get his restored FokceWulf FW-190A5 'Butcher bird' recovered from Russia and rebuilt, sometime in the next couple of months, it helps to be, in Johns case a big time lawyer and in Allens case, having all that MICROSQUISH money.
Check FHC's website for fly days and what's scheduled to fly, and if you come to a fly day, come early cause the place is more popular than free beer and burgers, and Johns soon will be. www.flying heritage.com for Allens.
From Seattle, in 2 hours you can be @ the Ocean, the mountains, the desert, or another country ( C eh N eh D eh) Canadians typically end everything they say with 'EH'. If you're going to Canada, bring your passport as they are now mandatory to get back into the U.S.

I spend a lot of time riding in your area, 'eh?

I am also an old airplane nut, built over 200 models back in the '50s and many flying models. Lived near the Kissimmee field in Fl. for years and loved to watch the old timers flying above my house. Me & Co-Pilot will have to come and see you - spread some 'EH s around - and some Japanese.

Yep. Buy food, Buy gas, Bye Bye.

FYI: Those shots of the Space Needle, Mt. Rainier, and the Super Ferries on the intro to "Greys Anatomy" are ALL FAKE! Nothing like that exists up here! All those shots have been photoshopped to remove the rain, fog and wind. Do not move here. The traffic is awful. There's mud, bugs and poisonous government. No indoor plumbing. Trees fall on everyone, all the time. Everyone comes down with ingrown toenails. Something to do with webbed feet.

(SYNSTR-How'm I doing?)

WOW - Pretty much what I tell everyone thinking of moving here - and our 'reality' is even better than our immediate neighbours to the south. That's why the AVERAGE housing unit here costs $1,000,000 + (includes condos & apts).

And Frasier's apartment was never that close to the needle either, and Sy-fy's 'John Doe' was actually filmed in Vancouver B.C. because of the exchange rate and big tax incentives. The new TV version of 'the Fugitive was filmed in the Everett area.

And all this time, I thought it was an aerobics video-unless you were watching the 32:59 minute version-

for your wife/girlfriend, AN O and a G with Hamster boy Gere was filmed in Port Townsend on the old Fort Warden historic park, and the 'plane on a stick' featureed in the outdoor shots, GRUMMAN F9F COUGAR is on display @ the Museum of Flight in South Seattle.

Even though I grew up in the Seattle area, and lived most of my life around here, I believe I'd rather drink sump scrapings than STARGAKS crappy, burned smelling, bitter coffee!
I've always hoped that some day we'd get big enough to have a major league Baseball and Football team.............we do!?!..........OH, you mean the Seadisappontments and Moronors are supposed to be top drawer teams!?! I still prefer Unlimited Hydroplane Racing.
The one good thing that Howie Shultz, owner of STARGAKS did do was run the NotsoSupersonics into the ground and got them sold to Oklahoma City so if you live there, that will explain the stench of overpaid cadavers that now can be detected on the breezes around town.(sort of like unloading the Dodge with the bad tranny)
What makes the area so special is in 2 hours you can go East and be in the desert, go West and be @ the Pacific Ocean, go South and be on the Columbia River or Portland Ore.for a wide variety of very fine micro brews, go North and be in another country (C eh N eh D eh), go Southeast and be @ Mt. St. Helens and just how bad a$$ed mother nature can get.

Yeah, I lived in Noo Awlunz when people would leave their pair of season tickets to the 'Aint's' on the dash of their car on Canal St. and come back to find another pair of tickets had been placed on the dash-back when they painted the seat backs @ the 'SuperDome' different colors so the TV audience wouldn't see that most of the seats were empty, and those who were there were wearing paper sacks over their heads.

The all time WORST concert I ever went to was the Grand Opening of the big cement pipe SuperDome, the Almans Bros,. played and it was all overlapping hollow echoes. I did watch a few College football games in there and the entire field fit between your knees up in the seats above the pigeon line.

A "C" student and an "A" student both get their PHD's. What do you call the "C" student? Doctor, that's what. So as far as the Heehawks go, I'd rather have them back into the playoffs than not get there at all. It's not that they were so bad (well, okay, they were), it's about how miserable the rest of the NFC West was. Y'know, I seriously considered putting a hundred bucks on'em to win the Super Bowl. Then I could retire. I heard today they're a hundred to one to win it next year. Betcha it can hit 300:1 three games in...Maybe I'll bet then. Still, they had some good years, got screwed in Super Bowl XL by the refs. And the Mariners won 116 games a few years back. 'Course, I had a 28 inch waist once too.

I agree about the coffee, though. 4 bucks for a cup o' joe? Gimme a break. Coffee is a tool. Folgers Crystals all the way, baby!

Nozzledog,
We don't have near the amount of nice days in a row you're used to (I 'lived' in Lancaster 40 years ago while working @ Lockweed) but average about 55 nice enough to ride days during the Winter. The East side has many more warm days than the wet side, but also can have in places, over 7 feet of snow in the Winter. Spokane broke a 60+ year snow record this late Fall/early Winter. If I could have afforded it, I'd have moved to New Mexico or Nevada, but too far to do it by myself-Probably the nicest area to settle in would be on the Oregon Coast near Lincoln City, pretty even temps year round and big enough without being 'the big city', plus you are already on 101.

I have an Uncle that lives in Portland, I like that area as well. I was thinking that when I retire, I could still work a little at Bingo-Bongo-Boeingo (got some connections with the ARFF guys).
A good Highschool for my daughter is a must as well.
