I have a 2008 Vision, and in that short time (OK, short for me) I have replaced the cable once, and now the second one is going bad. I need a new cable, and I am torn between paying for the "new" cable that charges all the iPods, or getting the older one that will work with my nano. The reason I am torn is that I don't want to pay $99 for a new cable that I will have to replace every year or so like the old one. If I am going to have to replace it, I'd rather pay less for it.

So, for those that had the older cable, and had it go bad, if you bought the newer one, is it any better? (In terms of how long it lasts before shorting out) If so, how long have you had it, and how long did it take for your old one to go bad? The first cable went bad less than a year. The second one took two years, but I wasn't able to ride as much for almost a year, and now I use it to commute to work almost every day, so it is probably the same number of miles before failure.

I appreciate any responses. I searched the threads, but didn't see anything about cord failures, at least not comparing the two cables. Sorry if I missed it.

ps-any secret for getting Victory to replace the 2008 radio with the newer one? My radio reception sucks, like everyone else. I saw that some were able to get it replaced. I haven't had a complete failure yet, but don't want to pay the $175 to have the company replace it for me. Afraid they'll just fix it. Has anyone been able to "scientifically" verify that the newer radio gets better reception? Hate to spend the dough if it was only slightly better than what I have. I installed the metra antenna...no big improvement. But it might influence whether or not I buy the new cable for the 2008 radio, or spend some of that towards getting the new radio, and the cable that fits that model. Wow, too many hard choices. Thanks guys.

I do not take my iPod out very often. I wonder if the connector has a shorter life if in daily use? I am still using the same cable since July of 2008.

One thing about the new cable, (with the box in it) it should provide superior voltage regulation since it is not sending the 12 to 14.3 Volts from the bike into the iPod. This should stop the "Vision killed my iPod issue". At least I hope it stops it.

Yeah, it's really frustrating. I do take the iPod out each night when i get home because I usually listen to music or audibooks before I go to bed. But the amount of movement I am doing really should not cause it to break like this. I have earphones that I have used a lot for over a year, and no problem.

I hope that someone on here can give some insight, like I said, kinda loathe to spend the money if it's going to break again and I have to shell out another $100 every year. It's kinda ridiculous that they charge that for it in the first place.

I was having some issues recently where I was needing to unplug the iPod and re-plug to get it to work, suddenly I lost the right channel, took the iPod and cable, did a thorough cleaning with electronics part cleaner and a small brush, a little bit of dielectric grease at the connections and the trouble appears to have gone away.
Good luck.

tralphaz, thanks, not a bad idea. Now that I think about it, it could be the connector. Been riding all winter and road salt and crud might have gotten in there. I washed it off the other day, but I didn't clean that off. Appreciate it.
