to update you radio firmware? My iPhone 4 and my old iPhone 3G with 4.0.2 don't work on my new (to me) 08 VV. I like using the phone instead of going out a buying a iPod or downgrading old phone to version 3 again. The dealer wants $90. I understand the have overhead and need to make money, but that seems like a lot to do it.

Maybe it is. That's why I'm asking. I have the extended warrenty too. I think a half hour of labor would be fair, about $40. I plan on checking with another dealer. Too bad the 2 closest to me went under.

Michael,

The first time I had it done it took the wrench two hours to update the computer that they used to update the Vision. I am not saying what he should charge to do the work. I just felt glad that he downloaded the latest code for my upgrade.

I bought and installed my own XM unit. Wouldn't work with radio. They updated radio without charge. Had I not bought the XM unit there, Im sure they would have charged something to cover their time

They should definitely charge for labor time. But it only takes about 30 min to do a software update on radio. I would ask for a seat belt, cause they are trying to take you for a ride!

I guess the real answer lays in all what needs to be done. Will it be a simple flash, or a radio replace? Is there a warranty? Sometimes forum questions are subjective, as we are not directly involved in the situation. I had questioned some charges once, but before I outright questioned the dealer, I called other dealers and explained the situation and asked if they charged for the same thing, and how much. The answer was yes, and it was more than what I was being charged, so I left it at that and realized the dealer wasn't taking me for a ride, but at the same time, the others were charging what they felt it was worth. $90, exactly what does that give you?

St Pete. Radio works fine. It has the orig firmware, 4.something. Doesn't like new iPhone.

Did you buy your "new" '08 from the dealer? Did you buy the one you totaled from this dealer?
